You need to understand how blocking code works. If you only need to hide your ID for once, you can add a blocking code in front of the phone number when dialing to temporarily hide the caller ID. You need to enter this blocking code every time you call to hide your ID.

  • This method may not be applicable if the person you are calling uses a hidden caller ID tracing app or service.

Define blocking code. With GSM phones in the US (such as most Android phones) you’ll use the code #31# , which other US network service providers often also operate with the familiar *67 code. Other codes you can use include:

  • #31# — Applicable in the US (AT&T phones), Australia (mobile networks), Albania, Argentina (mobile networks), Bulgaria (mobile networks), Denmark, Canada (mobile networks), France, Germany (some mobile carriers), Greece (mobile networks), India (only after network unlock), Israel (mobile networks), Italy (mobile networks), Netherlands (KPN phones) ), South Africa (mobile network), Spain (mobile network), Sweden, Switzerland (mobile network)

  • 1831 — Applied in Australia (landline)

You need to understand how Google Voice works. Google Voice assigns you 10 new phone numbers; this number is used every time you call using Google Voice.

  • While using Google Voice, the recipient will still see the Google Voice number, your real phone number is safe even if they install an application or service that retrieves caller information.
  • Using Google Voice is a great way to reach a blocked phone number screener without revealing your real number.

Make calls with Google Voice. When calling, Google Voice will use the number assigned to the previous account, so the recipient will not be able to see your actual phone number. To make a call, do:

    • Tap the Calls tab.
    • Tap the blue and white dial pad icon in the lower right corner.
    • Dial the number you want to call.
    • Tap the blue and white call button at the bottom of the screen.
    • Wait for a prompt with another number to appear.
    • Click Call to initiate the call.
  • Advice

    • Many service providers will set up a permanent caller ID hiding feature for your number if you call the operator and ask for it. This service usually charges an additional monthly fee.
    • The temporary blocking code will not hide your caller ID from emergency services (when you call local emergency services or 911 in the US, for example) nor from toll free numbers (for example if you call 1-800). Therefore, these codes do not prevent the authorities from tracing your calls. [1] X Research Source
    • If you want to call anonymously and cannot be traced to a private name, phone number or address, you can always use a pay public phone.
    • You can find more information online on how to hide caller ID if you use an iPhone.

    Warning

    • Using a prepaid phone card does not guarantee that the caller ID will be hidden, as some carriers will often pass your information on to the recipient.
    • If you want to get rid of your old Google Voice number, you’ll need to wait 90 days before setting up a new one.
