Place a CO2 trap near the entrance to the house. You just put the trap down and turn it on. The trap will emit CO2 gas to attract gnats and other nearby insects. When flying close to the trap, they will be sucked in by the force of the vacuum, eventually dehydrating and dying. [1] X Research Source

  • For maximum effectiveness, you should place the trap near the front door or in places where mosquitoes can enter the house, such as the front porch.
  • C0 2 traps are available online and at garden or home supply stores. However, these products cost about $300 – $1,500, (about 6.5 million – 34 million VND) so it can be difficult to buy because they are too expensive.

Use an insecticide containing DEET or picaridin to kill eye mosquitoes locally. If you find eye mosquitoes or eye mosquito larvae, spray insecticides to kill them with harsh chemicals. Most pest control experts agree that conventional repellants don’t work against eye mosquitoes, so killing them is often better than trying to repel them. [2] X Research Source

  • Hunting for gnats will be in vain – these tiny insects are almost transparent and usually no more than 2-5 mm long! Instead, you need to wait for them to appear and be ready to deal with them at all times.
  • Insecticides can kill adult gnats on the spot, but this is not a long-term solution for more serious infestations.

Trap the wandering gnats with a mixture of vinegar and soap. Pour distilled white vinegar or apple cider vinegar into a small bowl, and add a few drops of dish soap to the bowl. Place the trap in a well-ventilated place. Mosquitoes that fly by will be attracted to the vinegar and eventually drown under the slippery soapy water. [4] X Research Sources

  • Dish soap has the effect of reducing the surface tension of the liquid, making it difficult for insects to escape once trapped.
  • These traps have an unpleasant smell. You should place the trap near an open window and ventilate it to prevent odors.

Hire a pest control service if you have a serious infestation. If the situation is so dire, you may have no choice but to call in a professional. Depending on the severity, they can set traps, spray strong insecticides, even use stronger measures such as fumigation.

  • The pest control service is quite expensive but well worth the money because it gives you peace of mind that the problem has been thoroughly solved.

Clean up any standing water in the yard. Go around the garden looking for places that might attract mosquitoes. These can be fountains that have not been used for a long time, birdbaths, clogged gutters, or puddles on the ground. When you find potential trouble spots, drain the water or cover it with easily draining materials like gravel or sand. [5] X Research Sources

  • Don’t forget to glance at household items left outdoors, such as buckets or wheelbarrows, to see if there is standing water inside. [6] X Research Sources
  • Walk around the yard once a week to check for any standing water.
  • You may need to call a service to drain your ponds and ditches to dry them out forever.

Install insect screens on windows with a tight-fitting mesh to keep mosquitoes out. Choose a roll of tight-fitting insect netting to install on windows in your home. There are tight-fitting nets that keep insects even smaller than mosquitoes. [7] X Research Sources

  • You can buy insect nets at home improvement stores. There are many net rolls with different sizes, from the regular type to the very tight type used to prevent mosquito eyes. [8] X Research Sources
  • Regularly check the insect net, make sure there are no holes or tears, and replace damaged parts. Even a very small opening is enough for these tiny insects to get through.

Turn on the air conditioner to reduce the temperature and humidity. Adjust the temperature at 18 – 21 degrees Celsius or lower and let the machine run in batches during the day. Mosquitoes like hot and humid environments, so the cooler the air in your home, the less likely they are to fly in. [9] X Research Source

  • If you can’t turn on the air conditioner continuously (for example, in winter), turn on a ceiling fan or a table fan. This way at least helps cool air circulate in the room. [10] X Research Source
  • Consider buying a dehumidifier if you live in an area with above-average humidity.

Turn off the lights outside the gate at night to avoid attracting insects. Get in the habit of turning off all outdoor lights after dark. Many insects, including gnats, are attracted to light sources. Light is like a beacon to guide insects to the house. [11] X Research Source

  • Turning off the lights will not only make it harder for mosquitoes to find you, but it will also save you monthly electricity bills!
  • In addition, you should also close the curtains at night – insects can be attracted to the light coming from the window.

Tip: Instead of dimming the lights, you can also try replacing low wattage bulbs with a yellow light called “insect repellent”. This lamp is not too bright. [12] X Research Source

Wear tight clothing to avoid mosquito bites. If you plan to be outdoors in areas where mosquitoes are common, be sure to wear long pants and a long-sleeve shirt. You should also wear a hat to reduce the risk of being bitten by an eye mosquito. [13] X Research Source

  • Always wear high socks and closed shoes when walking near areas with standing water that is the territory of mosquitoes.

Stay away from wet, flooded areas where eye mosquitoes often congregate. One of the most effective tactics to deal with these pesky gnats is simply to stay away from them. Do not approach places such as lakes, swamps, and stagnant water. It is possible that the eye mosquitoes gather in flocks not far away. [14] X Trusted Source University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources Go to source

    • If you happen to go into such areas, try not to stay long because you are very easy to get burned.
  • Advice

    • There may be no way to completely get rid of eye mosquitoes if you live in a hot and humid climate – they are annoying, but this is a must in many places.

    Warning

    • In rare cases, eye mosquitoes can cause allergies or transmit diseases and parasites, such as heartworms. Seek immediate medical attention if the sting looks unusual. [15] X Research Source
