It’s really fun to play Ark and do all of that unique stuff like taming some of the best creatures and building your very own home. But, sometimes it’s really
annoying when we get stuck at a place where we are unable to get our hands on the required items.
At each stage of our journey in Ark, we need lots of different items. Keratin is one of them. It’s not that hard to get Keratin in ARK but some of the new players find it difficult to get. So, how to get Keratin in Ark? Well, it can be obtained from the corpses.
What you need to do is harvest those corpses either with the help of a tool or the creatures. We can tame a variety of different creatures for this. But, here we will discuss the ones which have the best efficiency.
Ways to Get Keratin in Ark
Tools are the most basic equipment that you can have to harvest Keratin. But, they don’t have as high efficiency as the creatures. So, for those of you guys who are unable to tame the creatures yet can make use of tools.
Here are the ways that you can try.
1. Using Creatures to Harvest Keratin
A few different creatures are capable of harvesting Keratin from corpses. But nobody wants to waste time harvesting with creatures that are of low efficiency. So, here our main focus is creatures that have the highest efficiency.
The first one we have is Sabertooth. This is the only creature in Ark that you can tame to achieve the highest efficiency in harvesting Keratin. Unlike other creatures, Sabertooth can get you a lot of Keratin in just a single harvest. This is a beast carnivore that has immense power. You can even take it to most of the combats.
Next up, we have Therizinosaur. Another dangerous creature with excellent efficiency. It has huge claws that can tear apart your enemies in just a few blows. These claws can easily harvest tons of Keratin from the corpse of a dead creature. Definitely, a must-have creature in Ark. Due to its huge claws, it can help you collect a lot of different items as well with high efficiency.
The last one on our list is Direwolf. This is also a carnivore creature that looks almost similar to a Wolf or you can say an extremely powerful version of it. Direwolf has the capability of harvesting a good amount of Keratin from corpses but, it has a bit low efficiency than the previous two. However, it can also harvest various other items for you such as Pelt, AnglerGel, Leech Blood, Hide, and others.
These three creatures are the best ones to help you get Keratin. You can also try and tame some other creatures. But these are not recommended, if you can get your hands on the best ones then that would be a perfect choice. So, you can tame creatures such as Thylacoleo, Argentavis, Carnotaurus, Phoenix, Quetzel, and Raptor.
2. Using Tools to Harvest Keratin
We can try a bunch of different tools for Keratin harvesting. But, the only best one is Hatchet. It can for sure give you a good amount of Keratin as compared to other tools. Simply, you will need to look for the corpses and do attacks using your hatchet. This will harvest Keratin and it will automatically get added to your inventory.
Here is what you need to craft a Hatchet.
- 8x Metal Ingot
- 1x Wood
- 10x Hide
This will get you a Metal Hatchet.
3. Hunting Down Creatures
Now, one thing to consider is there are some creatures as well that you can kill to obtain Keratin. They will drop a random amount of Keratin once you hunt them down.
Here are some of those creatures.
- Allosaurus
- Ankylosaurus
- Carnotaurus
- Deathworm
- Sabertooth
- Triceratops
- Woolly Rhino
- Therizinosaur
- Mammoth
- Thorny Dragon
We can take them down by any means. Either it is by using a weapon or a creature. As soon as you take them down you will get the Keratin.
So, you see we have these three ways to get Keratin in Ark. The last one is kinda time-consuming and can also get you in trouble if you encounter a high-level creature. Whereas, using creatures to harvest Keratin can be an efficient way.
Uses of Keratin
Keratin has its own uses and it can also be used in place of Chitin to craft several other items. So, that’s a good thing about Keratin. If you are unable to gather Chitin then you can use Keratin as a replacement in the recipe.
Here are some of the recipes that need Keratin.
- Bonemeal Fertilizer can be crafted in Handmill using 1x Keratin, 3x Spoiled Meat, 5x Hide, and 3x Charcoal.
- Araneo Saddle can be crafted in inventory using 260x Hide, 140x Fiber, and 100x Keratin.
- Argentavis Saddle can be crafted in inventory using 350x Hide, 185x Fiber, and 150x Keratin.
- Blood Extraction Syringe can be in inventory using 10x Hide, and 1x Keratin.
- Cementing Paste can be crafted on Chemistry Bench using 4x Keratin and 8x Stone.
What Drops Keratin in Ark?
Keratin you can collect by killing some of the creatures. We have mentioned these creatures in the above methods. You just need to kill any of those creatures and you will get Keratin. This will be a random amount, it could be high or low. Also, if you kill a high-level creature then there is a chance that you will get a greater amount of Keratin.
What is the Fastest Way to Get Keratin in Ark?
All of the ways that we have discussed above are the best ways to get Keratin. However, if we look for the fastest way then it is only by using creatures. The fastest and most efficient creature is only one and that is Sabertooth. It can gather an immense amount of Keratin in the shortest possible time. Definitely, a creature to have if you are looking for the fastest way of harvesting Keratin.
