Open iTunes on your computer. It’s a white icon with a multicolored musical note.

  • If you see a request to Download iTunes appear, you should do so before continuing. You will need to update and then restart the computer.

Connect iPhone to computer. You will do this by attaching the iPhone charging cord to the computer and then attach the other end to the phone.

Click the “Device” icon. It’s the iPhone icon in the upper-left corner of the iTunes window. This will open the “Summary” page.

  • For iCloud backups, you’ll choose Erase All Content and Settings , then enter the password when prompted.

Click Restore Backup to the right of the “Backups” section near the top of the page.

  • If necessary, you’ll have to turn off “Find My iPhone” before continuing.
  • If your iPhone doesn’t back up automatically, you can click Back Up Now to back up your current data in case you need to restore it later.
  • If you’re using iCloud backup, you’ll select Erase iPhone twice, then wait for the phone to complete the erase process.

Click the box next to “iPhone Name” when displayed to bring up a menu.

  • For iCloud backups, you’ll click the Home button when you see it.

Click the backup date. This should be the date that the deleted message remains on the iPhone.

  • For iCloud backups, you’ll choose a language and region, select a Wi-Fi network, and then choose Restore from iCloud Backup .

Wait until the restore is complete. Once the process is complete, you’ll see the deleted message in the green Messages app with a white chat icon.

Open the Messages Backup and Restore app. The app is green with a white clock icon. If you’ve downloaded the app on your Android phone and have recently made a backup, you can use it to restore messages.

Make sure the “Restore All Messages” box is checked. This option is in the middle of the Restore Backup window.
