How to Fold an Origami Heart

Origami is a very interesting paper folding art form. Folding a heart shape is quite simple but you can use it for very meaningful things, you can use this heart as a Valentine’s Day gift or ornament, a romantic keepsake or to decorate any something that you craft out of paper.

Create a Pyramid

Take a sheet of A4 size paper. You can also use a 15 cm x 15 cm square sheet of Origami paper. It is recommended to use thin paper because thick paper will be more difficult to fold and the folds will not print. ^{[1] X Research Source}

If it’s your first time folding, you should avoid using very small pieces of paper, because it will make folding more difficult and frustrating. If you want to make a big heart, use a slightly larger piece of paper.
If you want to draw an ornament over the heart, split it in half when drawing; That figure will end up in the center of the heart. You can also add decorations after folding the heart.

Flip the paper over to the white side. Then fold the top right corner down and fold along the left edge of the paper. Unfold the fold and do the same with the remaining top corner; Do not open this fold.

If you use A4 paper instead of Origami paper (which has a white side), don’t worry about flipping the paper over to the white side either.

Fold the bottom half of the paper in half. Fold so that the white side (or the inside of the paper) is not visible.

Create printed folds by running your fingernails over each crease. Print creases and strokes will make your final product look better.

Make a horizontal fold. Fold the top of the paper down horizontally, so that it forms a straight crease that goes through the intersection of the two diagonals. Then unfold the fold.

Flip the paper over to the other side. Hold the right and left edges of the paper (where the fold is horizontal) and pull in the center. When you pull the two edges in, the other two folds are also folded. Pull the two edges in until they fit snugly.

You may have to fold several times to get the pyramid shape, especially if you are new to Origami folding. The final shape you have to create is one with a triangle on top of a rectangle at the bottom.

Create Rhombus

Fold the bottom left corner of the upper triangle in so that it touches the top vertex of the triangle. Fold only the top layer, do not fold both layers of the paper. Do the same with the remaining edge; you will have a rhombus.

Fold the edges to the rhombus edge. Take the left edge of the non-rhombic portion of paper created in the previous step and fold it in the center so that the edge of the paper touches the edge of the diamond. Do the same with the right edge.

Make a vertical fold. Fold the entire folded shape in half lengthwise, then unfold and flip to the side.

Fold the bottom corners up. Grab the bottom two corners and fold them up until they meet in the center of the paper. Fold so that after folding the bottom edge coincides with the straight line running along the paper.

Fold the top wing down. Fold the large triangular wing down at the top, fold it all the way down and you will see a horizontal line. Now at the top there will be three separate wings, two small and one large. Fold the big wing down.

Complete Heart

Tuck the corners in. Tuck the two corners that you just folded up from the bottom edge of the paper into the slot of the folded triangle wing.

Fold the top two vertices down. Fold the remaining two wings at the top down at a diagonal angle.

Continue to insert the corners. Tuck the corner of the two small wings that have just folded down into the slot of the big wing.

The heart test just finished. You now have an Origami heart.

Advice

You should fold it with a small piece of paper first, because you can fold it one step wrong and you will have to fold it over and over again.
Look closely at the image instructions before folding to reduce unnecessary folds on the paper.
Practice. If you are new to Origami folding, this may be a bit difficult for you and you may not be able to do it the first time.
You can put the heart in an Origami box and give it away.
