1. Finding a Rod and Fishing Spot
The first guide about how to fish in Stardew Valley is to find a rod and a spot to fish. Receive a fishing rod from Willy in the early session. Willy is one of Stardew Valley’s characters and is the lead fisherman.
To get your first simple rod for free, visit the Fish Store, Willy’s house. The Fish Shop is situated on the Beach Docks, south of Pelican City.
Find a fishing pole in the location in the rain, in the ocean, bay, river, or some other location. You can also find a fishing rod in a random spot, in addition to having a rod from Willy. These may be on the field or in bodies of water when it rains outside. Look for a symbol on the fishing rod as you pass through Stardew Valley.
Make the cast into every body of water. If you have your own fishing net, look for water as you walk around the town. In bodies of water, including lakes, rivers, seas, you can swim. For instance, you can fish at Pelican Town beach.
Another important thing on how to fish in Stardew Valley is to watch for water bubbling to increase your chances of catching a fish. Look for the bubbling water in rivers and seas as you walk through the game. When you see water bubbling, that means the area has fish. If you cast near this location you have a better chance of capturing a fish.
2. Casting Your Line and Capturing the Fish
Once you’ve found a rod and fishing site, you can now progress to the next phase on how to fish in Stardew Valley. To do the cast, push the Y button. When you spot water, push your character over to the edge of the water and click the Y button.
The meter is popping up when this happens. When the meter bar is full press the Y button a second time. This is what makes you shine. The fuller the meter bar, the greater your cast would be. To increase your chances of capturing a fish, try to throw your line farther out into the sea.
Wait to catch a fish. You should normally have a fish on your line in around 10 seconds or so. Wait for the sound of the alarm to go off, meaning a fish is on you. Once this occurs, if you note the yellow exclamation button, click the Y.
To keep the green boundary around the fish, press the Y button down. To reel in your fish, use the Y button. The fish moves up and down within the box when you start the mini-game. Click the Y button to keep the fish inside the box limits.
Hold Y to go forward, let go of the Y button to push down the slot, and click the Y button quickly to sit in the same place. Then capture meter fills up as the fish lies inside the green enclosure. When the fish leaves the catch meter starts draining.
Catch the fish while the capture meter filled up. The capture meter must be completely loaded in to capture the fish. Click the action button to change the box around the fish, and fill the meter. Your win points are depending on the fish you are catching.
Each fish earns you about 12-25 points, and you get 1 point for every non-fishing object that you capture. If you’ve got a great catch, you’re winning bonus points. That is when you’re not missing one of your catching meters.
Let the fish loose if the catch meter runs out. If the box around the fish cannot be repositioned, and the capture meter runs out, you lose the mini-game. The fish swims upstream and the rest of the action continues.
If the catching meter runs out for the first few swings, don’t get frustrated. Maneuvering the box around a fish requires time.
