This wikiHow teaches you how to identify the 7-digit serial number or warranty code on your Dell product’s Service Tag. The service tag is product-specific and is typically required by Dell when it comes to customer support. Any newer Dell product is labeled with a Service Tag, which may fade over time. If the label on your computer or tablet has been blurred or lost, you can view the Service Tag through Windows, Linux, or Android.

Find labels on desktop PCs. Usually the white label will be affixed near the top, behind the case. Sometimes you’ll find a black label with white text on top of the product. Either way, the label includes 7 alphanumeric characters next to or below the word “Service Tag” (possibly “Serial Number” on previous models).

  • If you’re using an All-in-One PC, look for the white label with black text on the back, near the bottom of the screen.

Find the label on the printer. With most models of built-in printers, you need to lift the scanner lid to find a black and white label with the title “Service Tag”. On older models, a large white bar code label will be affixed to the back of the product or located in the toner/cartridge compartment. Service Tag is a code consisting of 7 alphanumeric characters.

Find the label on the screen. Look behind the screen for a black and white label with the title “Service Tag”, which contains a 7-digit alphanumeric code.

Find the label on the projector. A black Service Tag with white text is usually located on the bottom of the projector. If this label is not found, check the inside of the projector’s bag. Click Detect PC next to the “Enter a Dell Service Tag” field. Dell will start scanning the current PC.

  • If a PC information window appears, it means that the computer has SupportAssist installed. At this point, 7 characters Service Tag will be displayed in the upper right corner of the page.
  • If SupportAssist is not found, the message “You need Support Assist” will appear above the gray box. In this case, you need to continue to the next step.
