Choose the type of tea based on the effectiveness of the tea and your preferences. If there’s a tea you like to drink, that’s fine, but keep in mind that some teas are considered more effective for weight loss than others. [1] X Research Source

Most effective: Green tea, white tea, or oolong tea
Medium effect: Black tea
Less effective: decaffeinated tea or herbal tea
Harmful if taken too much: sweet tea, diet tea

Drink tea every day and make it a habit. Find ways to create healthy tea habits. The easiest way is to set “tea time” as a rule. Drink one cup in the morning and one in the afternoon, then drink decaffeinated or herbal tea at bedtime, as these teas still work without the caffeine.

  • Drink tea instead of coffee in the morning.
  • Make tea in advance and chill to make iced tea to drink on hot days. [2] X Research Source

Do not put anything in the tea. Cream and sugar will ruin all the weight loss benefits of tea. You need to practice drinking pure tea, without adding anything.

Drink tea to fight cravings. Tea is a great way to help regulate your metabolism. For best results, however, start drinking the tea every time you feel a craving for sweets or unhealthy foods. A cup of hot tea often helps to calm your stomach and avoid the temptation of food.

Choose Teas and Supplies

Find a tea you like. Although all non-herbal teas are made from the same tea plant, the tea’s properties will vary depending on the amount of time the leaves are exposed to the air. The lightest is the white tea, usually made from unopened leaf buds. Green tea is made from green tea leaves, while oolong and black tea are made from dried leaves. While much of the research usually focuses on green tea, you can still get benefits from any type of tea. Find the type of tea you like to drink and remember, each tea class contains many different flavors.

Green and white tea: The tea leaves are lightly processed and come in many varieties and flavors.
Black tea: Tea leaves undergo extensive processing, causing some beneficial substances (theaflavins and thearubigins) to be converted into more complex forms. These substances are still present, but may be less effective. [3] X Research Sources
Oolong Tea: Specially processed tea, can speed up metabolism, even more than green tea.
Decaffeinated Tea: Any of the above teas have been decaffeinated. Caffeine is beneficial for weight loss, but decaffeinated tea also has many other beneficial substances.
Herbal tea: Any made from plants other than traditional tea. Usually they have little effect, but are still a good alternative to energy drinks.

Be careful with diet tea. Although diet teas taste like black or herbal teas, they can contain laxatives, so they should be consumed “in moderation.” Experts warn against drinking too much tea for dieters because it can increase the risk of vomiting, nausea, persistent diarrhea, abdominal pain, even fainting and dehydration.

  • The concept of “diet” tea is a misnomer – any tea that is unsweetened and natural can help with weight loss. Some teas can act as a laxative or a drug that prevents the body from absorbing fat, so they are labeled as such. However, laxatives only help clean the intestines (the body has already consumed the calories). At first you may lose some weight because of dehydration, but when you drink something, your weight will remain the same.
  • One cup is enough. Seriously. You will regret if you drink more.

Be careful if the tea contains chlorophyll, aloe, frankincense, rhubarb root, buckthorn, or castor.

Read the ingredients on the label. There are so many types of tea on the market that we don’t know where to start. It’s best to start by reading the ingredients listed on the label. If it contains sugar or sweeteners, you should return it to the store shelf. [4] X Research Sources

  • This doesn’t mean you have to avoid flavored green teas. Yes, some have sugar, but some don’t. And if you can rely on all-natural ingredients then all is good for you and your waistline.

Ease of making tea (and drinking tea). A common obstacle is making tea. While this is not an extremely difficult process, it may not be as easy as we think. While you can make a quick cup of tea in the microwave (fill the porcelain cup with water and microwave it for about 2 minutes until it boils, then put the tea bags in), you can still do it simpler:

  • Buy an electric teapot. Electric kettles are plentiful in kitchen and bathroom stores, come in a wide range of prices, and are easy to use. All you need to do is just pour water in and push the button to boil the water. You can make tea by dropping each tea packet into the cup, or adding several tea bags to the kettle once the water has boiled. Use a thermos to store extra boiling water. Pour water in, drop in a few packets of green tea and place it next to the kettle or on the table for convenient use when needing a cup of tea.
  • Buy an iced tea maker. During the hot months, drinking hot tea doesn’t seem to be very pleasant. However, you can still drink as much tea as you normally would by using an iced tea maker. As with electric kettles, you just need to fill the machine with water, add ice (according to the manufacturer’s instructions) and tea bags. Turn on the machine and enjoy pure iced tea in just a few minutes.
  • Make iced tea the night before so it can be used quickly during the day. If you don’t have a few minutes to make iced tea each day, you can make it the night before and keep a pot in the fridge. Instead of bringing soda bottles to work, think about filling up a thermos of iced tea and taking it with you during the day.

Create a Daily Habit

Make a good habit of drinking tea. To take advantage of tea’s benefits, you need to drink tea every day, as often as possible, and drink pure tea. If drinking tea is not delicious, easy and convenient, you will not keep that habit. How can you make yourself drink more tea?

  • “Harvest tea” is the easiest way to start. If you have to work eight hours a day at the office, then it’s a good idea to keep your tea there – along with your favorite mug (or thermos), plus a microwave or electric kettle. .
  • Invite people to drink English tea – the style of enjoying tea with friends. If making a whole pot of tea by yourself seems futile, invite others to drink with you. Make a pot of tea at work and invite your co-workers. Get family members or roommates involved in the late-night tea routine. Once it becomes a social activity, you’ll be more likely to stick with it.

Do not add cream, milk or sugar if you are trying to lose weight.

Drink tea instead of coffee in the morning. Start your day with a cup of tea instead of your usual cup of coffee. Tea drinkers can also save calories, especially when visiting a coffee shop. Some drinks at a coffee shop have hundreds of calories, while at a tea shop it’s just tea.

  • As mentioned above, it is important that you drink pure tea. Adding milk may negate the tea’s ability to inhibit fat (flavonoid compounds). Furthermore, research shows that skim milk is the worst! [5] X Research Source Is it strange?
    • This study only deals with cow’s milk. If you want to try soy or almond milk, go for it – but keep in mind that it may or may not work as well as cow’s milk.

Use iced (unsweetened) tea instead of soda for lunch and dinner. Sugar, and even diet sodas, are known to have the opposite effect on weight loss. The sodium in diet soda can retain water in the body, so make a smarter choice – unsweetened iced tea. Iced tea is also an ideal choice if you’re looking for a caffeine boost for the afternoon. Iced (or hot) tea works equally well without the sugar found in regular soda, nor the sodium in diet soda.

  • Much of the “energy” behind drinking tea for weight loss is because you’re not absorbing any energy. Tea is low in calories (if used correctly) and helps you tame other high-calorie foods. This concept is similar to losing weight by drinking filtered water.

Drinking a cup of hot tea can also quench your afternoon cravings. While the fries and cakes in the vending machines are beckoning, make yourself a cup of tea. If you go out for a cup of tea, the antioxidant compound EGCG found in green tea actually reduces the amount of glucose that causes cravings, and can help control hunger.

  • What’s more, the tea-making process (as opposed to putting coins in the vending machine) also gives you a break between working hours – and you can think of good things, as well as make good choices. Choose the right food to eat instead of candy bars that provide empty calories. Chat with someone in the room drinking tea with you. This is a great way to relax, unwind and socialize in just 5 minutes!

Drink a whole cup of cold tea right before dinner. Drinking cold tea before dinner will partially fill your stomach, which means you’ll feel less hungry when it’s time to eat. (Of course, eating a healthy dinner is still important.) Cold tea is just as important. Cold tea will be heated by the body during metabolism, which will burn more calories, and thus will lose more weight.

Drink a cup of herbal tea ( caffeinated tea ) before going to bed. Regardless of weight loss goals, drinking a cup of hot herbal tea to end the day can help you relax your body and mind. Because getting a good night’s sleep also plays a role in weight loss, prepare yourself for a good night’s sleep with a cup of tea.

  • However, do not drink tea close to bedtime; otherwise you have to get up to go to the bathroom and your sleep will be disrupted, especially if you are pregnant or have urinary incontinence.

Drink tea on time. Some experts suggest that certain teas need to be consumed at certain times of the day for best results in weight loss. While tea is fine, consider trying different types to see which works best for you.

  • White tea can prevent fat absorption, so drink it at noon.
  • Teas like blueberry tea can balance glucose levels, so it’s most effective when taken with dinner.
  • Pu-erh, green, and oolong teas can boost metabolism, so drink it in the morning (and throughout the day too!). [6] X Research Source

Drink tea on the go. Many people nowadays spend a lot of time on commuting. Make this activity more fun by turning it into an opportunity to sit down and have tea! Bring a thermos of tea or two for your convenience. Have tea ready for the decisive moment of your day.

  • Basically, the topic of this article is drink, drink, and drink. Not only do you not have the opportunity to put something in your stomach, but you also don’t want to – the more you drink, the more full you will feel.

Consider how much caffeine you take in. Some teas contain caffeine – unlike a cup of coffee, of course, but if you drink tea 24/7, it builds up! While caffeine isn’t technically dehydrating, each cup of tea has about 50mg of caffeine. If you can avoid it, you should not exceed 300mg. [7] X Research Sources

  • If you have a bad reaction to caffeine, use caffeine-free herbal teas. While this shouldn’t be a problem for most people, some people are especially sensitive to high levels of caffeine which leads to insomnia, nervousness, and symptoms that linger, even for hours afterward. [7] X Research Sources

Stay Motivated to Drink Tea

Balance your tea habit with a healthy diet. Think again: If you don’t see quick results from your new diet, you won’t follow it. Drinking tea is a great idea, but you’ll see the fastest results if it’s followed by a healthy diet. These two things combined give you an incentive to count on!

  • Do you know what tea goes with food? Whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products. Since you made your own tea, why not cook for yourself at the same time? Eliminate processed foods. Preparing your own food means you know everything you put into your body.

Avoid boredom. Drinking the same tea all the time can bore your taste buds. Would you like to eat the same food every day? To stay in the habit of drinking tea, mix and try teas, flavors and variations. It can be a lot of fun if you keep your tea collection at home or on your office cup holder so you can choose the flavor of your tea according to your mood.

  • Add some honey or a few candy bars to the cup of tea. Remember that doing so will go against the original weight loss goal – but a little honey or sweetener can make the tea taste better. Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to drink like this once in a while.
  • Try adding a little fat-free flavored cream or a few drops of lemon to enhance the flavor of the tea. A slice of lemon can make the tea taste better. Furthermore, one study found that people who drank black tea with lemon could reduce their risk of developing skin cancer by 70%. Discover new flavors of tea. Talking about tea, it is true that above is heaven, below is all kinds of tea. There are so many brands and sources of tea that you can never taste them all. Learning about new types, flavors and drinking styles of tea is a lot of fun for tea drinkers.

  • Here are some teas worth trying, all of which are said to help with weight loss: [9] X Research Source
    • Anise tea: promotes digestive system function and can actually calm upset stomachs.
    • Peppermint Tea: Controls taste and accelerates digestion
    • Rose tea: prevents constipation and contains many vitamins
