Open Microsoft Word. You’ll double click on the app’s icon, which is a white “W” on a dark blue background.

  • If you wanted to draw in an existing document, you would double-click the document and skip to the next step.

Click Blank document . This option is located in the upper left corner of the window. A new document page will display.

Click Shapes (Figure). This option is located in the “Illustrations” section of the Insert toolbar. A drop-down menu will display.

Select a line from the drop-down menu. Under the “Lines” heading, click to select a line style from the drop-down menu.

Draw a line in the document. You will click and drag to draw, then release the mouse to freeze the drawing.

  • You can still click and drag the line to edit it after you’ve fixed it.
  • To delete a line, click the line to select it, then press the Delete key.

    Add more lines. To add a new line after the first one has been fixed, simply select a line pattern in the Shapes menu and repeat the drawing process above.
