How to Downgrade Firefox Version

This wikiHow teaches you how to restore an earlier version of the Firefox browser. You can downgrade Firefox versions on both Windows and Mac computers, but you cannot proceed on the mobile app.

Select the folder for your operating system. Since the folders here are not clearly labeled, you need to keep the following in mind to recognize the folder for your operating system:

For Windows computers – Look for the number “win32/” (32-bit Windows) or “win64/” (64-bit Windows) in the text of the link. If you don’t know your computer’s bit count, check first.

Select the language folder. The list on the page is in the abbreviated country language. For example, if you are in English and in the US then click on the “en-US/” folder.

Click the download link. The selected version of Firefox will begin downloading to your computer.

Depending on your browser settings, you may be asked to confirm the download or choose a save location before the download begins.

Double-click the Firefox setup file. Once the download is complete, double-click the setup file to start the installation process. On Windows computers, this will be the application file (EXE), while Mac users will double-click the DMG file named Firefox.

On MacOS Sierra and later, you may have to manually authorize the installation before continuing.
On Windows, you may need to click Extract all first. In this case, you click Extract all , open the extracted folder (not the ZIP folder) and then double click the Firefox application again.

To ensure that the version of Firefox you have downgraded to is maintained, you need to disable automatic updates. This process will vary by version, but generally click the Tops tab (or the ☰ icon on later versions), then click Options or Preferences . select Advanced , click Updates , and uncheck the “Automatic update” box.

Warning

Older versions of Firefox will have unpatched vulnerabilities, which attackers can take advantage of to infiltrate your system with malware, steal personal information, and so on. Be careful when using older versions of Firefox.
When using older versions of Firefox, you must be careful of suspicious websites and run an anti-virus program on your computer.
Note that downgrading doesn’t necessarily solve the problem you’re having with the new version.
