This wikiHow teaches you how to disable an app’s screen overlay permission on an Android phone. Sometimes when the screen overlay conflicts with another application, an error message will appear. This will prevent most applications from working properly. You can disable an app’s screen overlay permission in the Settings menu on pure Android phones, Samsung Galaxy and LG.

Tap the app for which you want to disable screen overlay. If you turned off this feature because of an error message, select the app that reported the error or the app that you think is causing the problem. The applications that often overlay the screen are Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Twilight.

  • On some devices you will only see a list of apps with a screen overlay with a switch next to it, in this case you can simply tap the switch to turn off the screen overlay of the selected app.
