Try the Toggle Internet script. This application “forces” you to disconnect from the Internet by temporarily disabling your computer’s network access. This small script allows you to completely disable networking on your Windows computer with just one click. You can restore the connection anytime you need. To get started, download Toggle-Internet.bat to your computer.

Turn off the Internet. Right click on the Toggle icon on the desktop. Select “Run as Administrator”, you will be disconnected from the network. Then when you reconnect, just right-click on the file and open it as administrator as before.

  • Actually, this small script only turns off the status of the Network Adapter (also known as the LAN adapter or Ethernet cable) so it turns off the internet. If you want to manually enable or disable the Network Adapter, open Contrp Panel -> Network and Internet -> View Network Status -> Change Adapter Settings.

Try Let Me Work. Toggle Internet will temporarily block all websites, but you want to block the network with some distracting websites, and still be able to connect to Google Docs or email. Load the Let Me Work script. You can create a list of websites you want to block and this script will modify the Windows HOSTS file to temporarily block those websites. [4] X Research Sources
  • Advice

    • Always check Firewall exceptions for unlicensed programs.
    • Disabling the Internet means that the program cannot connect to the Internet, whether it is posting or downloading data. Make sure that no programs need an Internet connection.
    • Make sure you want to turn off the network completely. Consider though that the methods are all undoable.
    • On Linux, you can easily disable Internet access by configuring the firewall element to block network connections. Ubuntu platform distros often use the “ufw” package as a firewall.

    Warning

    • If you install an anti-virus program, you must adjust the exception at the program’s interface.
