Log in to your Twitter account on your computer. The option to disable Twitter is only available on the desktop interface, so open it with a desktop browser or run the desktop version on a mobile browser. You need to log in to deactivate your account.

Open the Settings menu. Click the gear icon in the upper right corner of the Twitter homepage. Select Settings from the menu that appears.

Read disabling warnings. When disabled, your account will be retained for 30 days on the Twitter server. After that, the account and all related data will be deleted.

  • You can reactivate your account at any time during the 30-day period by logging in on the Twitter homepage.
  • If you want to change the username (username) or Twitter URL, it is not necessary to disable the account. You can change these items in the Settings menu.

    Deactivate the account. Click the “Deactivate@ accountname ” button to deactivate the account. You need to enter a password to proceed with the deactivation.

    • The content on your account is still viewable during the transfer to the Twitter server (takes a few days).
    • If you want to reuse your username or email address to create a new account within 30 days, before deactivating, you must go to the Settings menu to change that information.
