Enter the password and then click Continue to go to the disable page.

Tap the reason for the account lockout. If you select Other at the bottom of the section, you’ll need to enter a reason you want to disable it.

  • If you want Facebook to automatically activate your account after a week or less, click This is temporary. I’ll be back. (This is a temporary action. I’ll be back) then select the number of days to deactivate the account.

Click Close if prompted for another action. If Facebook thinks the reason you’ve chosen is fixable, you’ll see a pop-up with alternative action (optional); when you click Close this message will disappear.

Turn off email notifications and/or Messenger if you want. Just click on the boxes next to Opt out of receiving future emails from Facebook and Keep me signed into Messenger, respectively.

Click Deactivate at the bottom of the page. Your account will be deactivated immediately.

  • You may be asked to enter your password again before deactivating your account.
  • You can reactivate your account by logging into Facebook the next time you open the app.

Click the disabling reason in the “Reason for leaving” section near the bottom of the page.

Click Close if prompted for another action. Depending on the reason for leaving you choose, Facebook may recommend that you sign out or add friends instead of deactivating your account.

Look through the exit option. Before deactivating your account, you can check or uncheck the following options:

  • Email opt out – When you check this box, Facebook will stop sending you emails.
  • Messenger – Disable Facebook Messenger as well. If you don’t check this box, people can still find and send you messages through Messenger.
  • Delete applications – If you are a Facebook developer and have created apps, they will be listed on this page. Checking this box will remove the apps from your developer profile.

    • When you deactivate your account, all the information on your profile will be saved in case you come back.

    Warning

    • Deactivate accounts only when absolutely necessary. If you do this too often, after a certain time, you will not be allowed to reactivate your account right away.
    • The only way to permanently remove sensitive information from Facebook’s servers is to delete the account.
