Choose a cool name for your channel. Think of a name that is rarely used but is still easy to remember. If the name doesn’t match, you’ll create a bad image. You can choose to use your real name if you like, or you can make your own one that sounds cool. Note that once you’ve given it a name, you’ll need to wait a while before you can change it to a new name. For example, if you decide to name it “Ready Spaghetti” and then realize it was a bad choice, you have to wait up to three months before you can change the name. So choose your name wisely.

Remember to create a unique username and unique channel name. You probably don’t want your channel to have the same name as other channels, so you need to get creative and give it a completely new name that no one but you can think of. If you want to create an art channel and your name is John, you’ll think the name “John’s Artistic Channel” sounds cool. However, if you speak English with a British accent or similar accent, Americans may think you are saying “John’s Autistic” Channel. In addition, the name “John’s Artistic Channel” is too easy to understand and has no creativity or attraction. Adding the word “channel” seems redundant and unprofessional, similar to the case when someone adds the phrase “movie” before the name “Star Wars”. This name detracts from the special “world” you want to create. For a creative person, it is very important to have a unique name that can express your creativity. Here are a few names that fit the previous example: John Doe the Art Pro, PicassDoe or Doe Vinci. These names are both creative and informative. That way, potential viewers know the type of art you’re inspired by and the emotions they’ll get when they watch your channel.

Go to YouTube and sign in with your Google account. Once logged in, you’ll see your name or username at the top of the left menu. Click that to go to your user page.

Add a profile picture. This is a necessary part of your YouTube channel. Make sure your profile picture is related to the name of the channel so you don’t get confused with someone whose photo looks similar to yours.
Image titled Make a YouTube Channel Step 5

Image titled Make a YouTube Channel Step 5

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/c/c4/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-5.jpg/v4-728px-Make-a-YouTube-Channel- Step-5.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/c/c4/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-5.jpg/v4-728px-Make- a-YouTube-Channel-Step-5.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:334,”bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:529,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser -output”></div>”}
Add cover photo. This is the photo at the top of your channel page. YouTube gives you a preview of how your photos will look on the website, on TV, or on mobile devices. Try to center the subject part of the photo; that way, when someone else watches your channel on a mobile device, the outside of the photo will be cut off. Surely you don’t want to have half your face cut off!

  • Use a cover photo that grabs the viewer’s attention. The cover photo sets your channel apart from the rest of YouTube’s look and feel.
  • Enter the channel’s name and message in the cover photo. This way, viewers will remember you better.
  • YouTube recommends using a cover photo with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.
  • Change the cover photo often. You should regularly change the visuals related to the content being published on the channel, unless you want to set a brand image by always using the same image. For example, if you’re making funny videos, change the cover photo to relate to the series of funny content being released.
  • Grab your viewers’ attention by adding new and beautiful photos to your channel. However, the photo needs to be relevant to the content on your channel. You will post pictures that can create the kind of emotion you desire. If you’re into art and are new to YouTube, you can put goofs on your logo to let others know you’re funny and your channel always brings lots of laughs. If you are a serious person and want to show your artistic talent to the public, you choose emotional photos full of art.
  • To create collages without using Photoshop, you can use Picmonkey or Pixir.

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/f/f6/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-6.jpg/v4-728px-Make-a-YouTube-Channel- Step-6.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/f/f6/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-6.jpg/v4-728px-Make- a-YouTube-Channel-Step-6.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:334,”bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:529,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser -output”></div>”}
Describe your channel. Add a brief description for your channel so viewers know in advance what they’ll be watching. To adjust the channel description, click the About tab in the main channel window. Here, you click the “+ Channel description” button.

  • Add links to other websites in your channel’s description or news updates. Introduce who appears in your videos and connect other relevant channels.
  • Make sure your description makes sense because it’s publicly visible content. You should only write a short introduction about yourself and your channel.

Name your channel. You see the description and the content to be posted to name it appropriately.

  • For example, if your video shows how to knit a hat, you could name the channel Beautiful Knitting; Specializing in Knitting or Knitting Beautiful Hats, etc.

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/a/a8/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-8.jpg/v4-728px-Make-a-YouTube-Channel- Step-8.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/a/a8/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-8.jpg/v4-728px-Make- a-YouTube-Channel-Step-8.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:334,”bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:529,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser -output”></div>”}
Add a few links. If adding a link to a social media site through a channel, be sure to create a separate account for each network, e.g. Facebook page, Twitter account, Instagram account. Note that this is not strictly necessary.

Content development

Image titled Make a YouTube Channel Step 9

Image titled Make a YouTube Channel Step 9

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/3/38/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-9-Version-2.jpg/v4-728px-Make-a- YouTube-Channel-Step-9-Version-2.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/3/38/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-9- Version-2.jpg/v4-728px-Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-9-Version-2.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:334,”bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight” :529,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser-output”></div>”}
Fact-finding. The first step to creating content is deciding what you want to share with the public. People use YouTube for many different purposes such as watching music videos, entertaining with funny videos, watching tutorials and many more reasons. Think about what you can introduce to your audience that other people don’t have.
Image titled Make a YouTube Channel Step 10

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/8/87/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-10.jpg/v4-728px-Make-a-YouTube-Channel- Step-10.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/8/87/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-10.jpg/v4-728px-Make- a-YouTube-Channel-Step-10.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:334,”bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:529,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser -output”></div>”}
Identify your strengths. If your friends say you’re funny, try making funny videos. If your forte is singing, you can post your performance. It’s important that you create content that makes viewers want to come back for more.

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/a/a4/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-11.jpg/v4-728px-Make-a-YouTube-Channel- Step-11.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/a/a4/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-11.jpg/v4-728px-Make- a-YouTube-Channel-Step-11.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:334,”bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:529,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser -output”></div>”}
Try making a video review. This is a great way to keep your audience engaged, especially when you’re evaluating what other people are looking for. People always want to see good reviews before deciding to buy a product or service. Some topics to evaluate are as follows:

  • New music album
  • Latest electronic devices
  • TV series and movies
  • Video games
  • Book
  • Restaurants and food
  • Business forms

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/d/d1/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-12.jpg/v4-728px-Make-a-YouTube-Channel- Step-12.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/d/d1/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-12.jpg/v4-728px-Make- a-YouTube-Channel-Step-12.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:334,”bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:529,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser -output”></div>”}
Shoot as many videos as possible. Continually create more content for your audience. Not only will this create a seamless flow of content to keep your audience engaged, but it will also help you improve the quality of your product as you continually evolve your style.

  • Improve basic video creation techniques. If speaking in front of the camera, you need to make sure the camera is held still and that you speak coherently at the right volume. You may be the funniest person in the world, but no one will watch your videos if they can’t hear or see your performance.
  • If you’re making a YouTube video for a video game channel, you’ll need recording software. Nowadays, you can find a lot of recording software, but Bandicam is one of the most popular names.
  • With Bandicam trial version, you can create videos of up to 10 minutes for absolutely free!
Image titled Make a YouTube Channel Step 13

Image titled Make a YouTube Channel Step 13

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/7/75/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-13.jpg/v4-728px-Make-a-YouTube-Channel- Step-13.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/7/75/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-13.jpg/v4-728px-Make- a-YouTube-Channel-Step-13.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:334,”bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:529,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser -output”></div>”}
Practice video editing skills. Trim unnecessary parts of the video and add music to attract viewers. A well-edited video will make a stronger impression on viewers than a shredded video. Take the time to learn the features and intricacies of the video editing software you’re using. In addition, you can find instructions for performing some basic editing functions.

  • You can find a lot of free and open source video editing software online. Many of these software have the same or similar features as expensive professional editing software. Beginners should familiarize themselves with free software available on computers, like iMovie on Macs and Windows Movie Maker on Windows machines. After familiarizing yourself with the software’s interface and technology, you can move on to more complex and versatile software.
  • If you’re inserting music, you’ll need to choose non-copyrighted music or music authorized by the author.

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/7/7c/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-14.jpg/v4-728px-Make-a-YouTube-Channel- Step-14.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/7/7c/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-14.jpg/v4-728px-Make- a-YouTube-Channel-Step-14.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:334,”bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:529,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser -output”></div>”}
Create an engaging opening. Most viewers determine if a video is worth watching within the first few minutes. Create an opening that is both interesting and informative. The longer a video is watched, the more YouTube will rank your video in search results.

  • Post a short teaser video with cuts from the upcoming video.
  • Make sure your personality is clear and transparent from the beginning of the video. Speak directly to your viewers by introducing the video yourself, having a quick chat about the video content (but don’t reveal the climax!).
  • If you’ve built a brand (like your name) or a series of videos you’re creating, you need to make sure it’s recognizable and professional-looking right in the opening part of your video.
  • When making actual videos, such as reviews or tutorials, you need to make sure the purpose of the video is clear from the start. This helps you avoid viewers turning to videos that provide other information
Image titled Make a YouTube Channel Step 15

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/c/c1/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-15-Version-2.jpg/v4-728px-Make-a- YouTube-Channel-Step-15-Version-2.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/c/c1/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-15- Version-2.jpg/v4-728px-Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-15-Version-2.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:334,”bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight” :529,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser-output”></div>”}
Take advantage of event highlights. The media is constantly “waking up” before the events of the year in any field. These are known as “snatching” events. Review your show and determine what “snap” events are right for your audience.

  • Create event related videos to take advantage of pre-event search. As the expectation for the event will increase, more and more people will search for information related to the event.
  • Create a video narration while the event is happening. This is great for viewers who can’t experience the event themselves.
  • Create a video that continues after the event. Use this time to summarize what happened and analyze the information.
  • Engage with viewers during the event period to get them back to your channel.
  • During major events, it’s a good idea to increase the amount of content you publish to continue to attract new viewers. Posting lots of content will let your audience know you understand and are passionate about the event.

Telling stories. Every video, whether fact or fiction, needs to have a story. You should plan your script with a beginning, main body, and ending. This is a must for not only flower care tutorials but also funny videos.

  • Break the video into small sections that focus on different perspectives on the big issue you cover. Thus, viewers can understand the content easily.

Use annotations. This is the text that appears on your video. Use captions to direct viewers to another video or channel, website, and other information.

  • You can use captions to allow viewers to easily click the subscribe button to your channel.
  • Use captions on old videos to link to new content.
  • Captions can be used as a “table of contents” for long videos, helping you to link to specific times in the video.

Make changes from time to time. If you come out with demonstrations often, try setting aside a video to chat directly with your viewers, answer common questions in the comments, and share your creative progress. Behind-the-scenes will create a strong bond with your audience and make them feel like a part of your work.

Try to post content regularly. While it might seem great to post a video every hour, no one does. You can post new videos every day or every other day.

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/b/b0/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-20.jpg/v4-728px-Make-a-YouTube-Channel- Step-20.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/b/b0/Make-a-YouTube-Channel-Step-20.jpg/v4-728px-Make- a-YouTube-Channel-Step-20.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:334,”bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:529,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser -output”></div>”}
Use quality recording software like FRAPS and Xsplit. However, if you can’t afford it, you can try Bandicam until you can afford it.

Click the “Select files to upload” button to find the video files or drag them into the window. YouTube will start converting and posting your video.

  • If you want to control who watches the video, click on the Privacy drop-down list to choose your liking. You can add the YouTube username or email address of the person you want to share the video with. You are allowed to send 50 private invitations per video.
  • If you want to post videos longer than 15 minutes, you’ll need to verify your account with Google.

Name the video. You can’t post anything without a name! The title of a video is the element that “sends” views, likes, comments, and sometimes even followers.

Create creative cards. Tagging helps videos show up when viewers search for content. You need to make sure your tags are related to the video, but don’t share the tags that other people use for the genre you’re after.

  • Try to narrow the appeal to a few keywords when you choose to use tags. For example, instead of tagging a video as “singing”, you could narrow it down to a style like: “blues singing”, “country singing”, “freestyle rapping” ” (freestyle rap), etc.
  • You can tag the video in any way that you think it will be easy for others to find. Your tag should clearly describe the body of the video.
  • Combine general and specific tags together. For example, if making a short funny video about ninjas, you would use tags like: “short film”, “ninjas”, “funny” (fun), “martial arts” (martial arts), “” action” (action), “fighting” (kick), “silly” (silly), etc.
  • You can use tags to create a “set” of videos. Create a unique tag and attach it to each video you want to bundle together. Here’s how to help you increase views for related videos.

Maintain channel

Schedule. When recording, you should schedule to know what days will be devoted to this and not feel pressured to have to shoot every day.

Continuously posting videos. If you want to have a successful channel, you’ll need to post content regularly. Please update the channel every few weeks. Also, you should let your viewers know about your upcoming long vacation and when you’ll be back.

  • Setting up a regular content posting schedule helps you gain a following. It’s like a show on TV – everyone is looking forward to the next episode of their favorite show and they know when the next episode will be. Please update every week or every two weeks.

Interact with viewers. Please try to respond to comments when you have time. This is how to create a strong bond between you and your audience. When viewers feel that the content writer is interested in them, they will come back to see more content and recommend your channel to others.

  • Take a few hours after posting your video to respond to viewers’ comments. These are the “hardcore” viewers because they are often eagerly anticipating your new content and have the courage to comment. Respect them and you will see this viewership grow.
  • Handle comments on your site. While it may be funny to read nasty comments, they are offensive to the channel and reduce viewership. Please delete comments that affect others and report uncivilized users. This helps you create a more welcoming environment for casual viewers.
  • Ask the audience questions. Ask simple questions, such as yes or no questions or poll questions. This helps you reduce negative comments and increase positive discussion among viewers.

Introducing old videos. To give new viewers access to old content, you embed it on your news feed so that viewers can see it right on your channel page. As such, old videos also get an increase in views.

Watch other channels. You should spend extra time logged into YouTube not just doing channel maintenance. Watch other channel’s videos, interact with more users and watch like-minded people’s content.

  • Link to other users’ content if you feel it’s appropriate for your own. This helps your channel show up in related searches.
  • Try to maintain a schedule of inserting other links into videos. Be selective about connected and liked videos on days when you don’t post your own videos. This helps you eliminate the wait time between videos to keep viewers on your channel.
  • When it comes to liking other videos, you need to make sure they’re of interest to your audience. You certainly don’t want to disappoint your viewers because no one likes the video you already like.

Review your comments on old videos. When you post something, your video is sure to be viewed and sometimes other people will leave their impressions of the video in the comments. So you better check your videos regularly.

Collaborate with other content creators. Connect with other creators in your niche. You can introduce each other’s channels to increase views. Alternatively, you can guest on someone else’s video and invite someone to your video.

  • Make sure your viewers can easily access the channels you work with. The goal is for them to spend time learning about the content your community has created.

Use social media to increase your popularity. Insert video links and playlists from your channel into Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and other social networks. Google+ is not the best choice because there are very few users who regularly join this network. Try encouraging your online and offline friends to recommend your videos to others.

  • Avoid disturbing social media connections by posting multiple links to your channel. It’s okay to give a subtle reminder every now and then, but no one will react positively to being “overrun” with links.

Call for referrals from viewers and friends. However, you should not force them, but only suggest to viewers to share your video if they like it. These messages should be reserved for the end of the video after the important piece of content has been viewed. Also, don’t forget to remind viewers to “like” your video.

Imagine you become famous, many people like your video and also someone repost your video and claim to be the author. This is a bad thing. If you feel like this happens when you’re famous and know a lot of people repost your videos, try searching for the name of your video on YouTube to check if anyone has reposted it illegally.

    Warn unauthorized video uploaders. If you find your video on someone else’s channel, warn them. There’s no need to argue, unless they don’t stop it and you should report it to YouTube.
  • Advice

    • If you like to draw and record videos while you’re drawing something, you can use video editing tools to speed up the time-consuming drawing process. Nowadays, you can find a lot of free software, but be aware that there are ads.
    • Always remember to create content that you know your viewers will enjoy.
    • Know what you’re going to post on your channel. That way, you won’t become a weird YouTuber. For example, the Lifesimmer channel usually only plays the game “The Sims”, while PewDiePie plays more games.
    • Set “Default Channel” for your channel setup to increase the stability and visibility of your name in YouTube’s algorithm.
    • When creating a YouTube channel, you need to be careful in choosing the name because it cannot be changed. Choose a name that relates to your content, sounds unique, makes viewers remember it, and stands out from the crowd of other YouTubers. You should check to see if the name you chose is already used or if there is another similar name!

    Warning

    • Make sure your video complies with YouTube’s terms. If a video violates YouTube’s terms, it will be removed and your account will be suspended. So make sure any content you post complies with the site’s policies.
    • You will probably get negative comments. Don’t let these comments affect you and keep doing your thing. However, don’t ignore positive constructive comments – if someone else criticizes some part of the video, listen to improve the next video.
