This article shows you how to create a Minecraft server on your Windows or Mac computer using a free program called Hamachi. Remember that this method is only applicable to the Java version of Minecraft on the desktop; which means you can’t try to use this method for Windows 10, Pocket Edition, or console versions of Minecraft.

Install Hamachi. After downloading Hamachi, you will install it into the operating system:

  • On Windows — Double-click the Hamachi installation file, select the language and click Next , check the “I have read” box and click Next , click Next and then click Install . Click Yes if prompted during installation, then click Finish when prompted.
  • Mac — Open the ZIP folder, double-click the extracted Hamachi installation file, click Open , validate the download if necessary, check the “I have read” box and click Install . Enter the password if prompted, then click Finish when prompted.

Download the Minecraft hosts file. Go to https://minecraft.net/en-us/download/server using your computer’s web browser, then click the minecraft_server.1.15.2.jar link in the middle of the page. This is the step to download the Minecraft Java server file to your computer.

Create folder on desktop. You will place and run your Minecraft server in this directory. To create an empty folder, follow these steps:

  • On Windows — Right click on the desktop, select New , click Fpder , then type Minecraft Server and press ↵ Enter .
  • On Mac – Click File , click New Fpder , type Minecraft Server then press ⏎ Return .

Accept the terms of use of the Minecraft server. After the “eula” file appears, double-click it to open it with Notepad, then remove the false from the “eula=false” line and type true . You can then press Ctrl + S to save your changes and close Notepad.
