How to Create a Google Account

A Google account is your key to access all of Google’s apps and services, most of which are free. Signing up for a Google account is quick, but you’ll need to provide some personal information. Follow the guide below to see what you need to do to get the most out of Google.

Open any Google website. Includes Google, Gmail, Google+, Drive, and many more. Click the red Sign In button, and then click the red Sign Up button. You will be taken to the “Create a new Google Account” page.

These buttons may vary depending on the Google service you are using. For example, Gmail has a “Create an Account” button instead of a “Sign Up” button.

Choose a username. By default, your username will become your new Google account name. You can click the link below to create a new Google account from an existing email address instead of creating a new Gmail address.

This option does not apply if you are signing up for a Gmail account. In this case, you must create a new Gmail account.
If your username is not available, you will be presented with several similar options, or you can try a different username.

Fill in the remaining required information. You will need to enter your full name, date of birth (to confirm your age), gender, phone number in case you lose access to your account, and an email address to confirm. You also need to provide the country in which you are residing.

Phone number is recommended but not required.

Enter the CAPTCHA confirmation code. This is a confirmation tool to make sure you are the real person creating the account. If you can’t read the code, press the refresh button next to the text box to get a new confirmation code, or click the speaker icon to hear the code read through your computer.

Agree to the privacy policy. Take the time to read the privacy policies to learn what Google can and can’t do with your personal information. Check the box if you agree to Google’s terms.

Click Next Step. You will be taken to the page that generates your Google+ information. All Google accounts will create a Google+ account when they are set up. You can choose to add photos to your account if you want.

Click the Get Started button. Your Google account has been created. You can click the button back to the Google homepage, or access any of Google’s services. Auto-login will be enabled on any Google site you visit.
