In this article, wikiHow will show you how to create an event on Facebook. “Events” is a temporary page for upcoming parties or social discussions that you use to invite people on Facebook to attend. You can create events on the mobile and desktop versions of Facebook.

Open Facebook. Tap the Facebook app icon, a white “f” on a dark blue background. The app will open the News Feed page if you are logged in.

  • If you’re not signed in, enter your email address (or phone number) and password before continuing.

Press the ☰ button. You can find this button in the bottom right corner of the screen (iPhone) or the top right corner (Android). This is the operation to open the menu.

  • Some beta versions of the Facebook app will have a 3-dot icon in place of the 3 dashes.

Click the Events button. You’ll see a calendar icon at the top of the menu.

  • If you’re using the experimental version of Facebook, you may have to scroll down to find the Events option.

Select Create (iPhone) or + . On iPhone, press the Create button in the top right corner of the screen; On Android, tap the blue plus sign in the bottom right corner of the screen. This opens the menu at the bottom of the screen.

Select the event type. On iPhone, choose the event type in the menu; on Android, tap the event type at the top of the page and choose one of the following:

  • Create Private Event – Create events on Facebook that can only be accessed by invitees.
  • Create Public Event – Create a public event that is accessible to everyone, including those without a Facebook account.
  • Create Group Event – Allows you to select a group you own to send invitations to. People who are not part of the group cannot access the event.

Enter the event name. Tap the “Event title” text field at the top of the screen, then type the name you want to use.

Upload photos for the event. Tap the camera or photo icon in the right corner of the event name, select a photo from your phone.

Add time to the event. Tap the current time (option will show “Today at [time]”), then select the date and time, tap OK .

Add locations. Tap the “Location” field, type a place name, and tap the location. This is an action to add the location of the event.

Add description. Tap the “More info” field, then type in more information to notify people coming to your event. This is a good place to add house rules, plans or schedules.

Edit event preferences. Depending on the type of event you organize, the following options will be available:

  • Private – Click the “Guests can invite friends” switch to prevent guests from inviting others.
  • Public – Add the ticketing web address, co-host information, or category.
  • Group – Select the group as your guest base by tapping the white space below the event name and selecting a group.

Click on + Create Event (+ Create Event). This is the blue button on the left side of the screen. After pressing the button, a menu will appear.

Upload photos to the event. Click Upload Photo or Video to open a file browser window on your computer, select the photo or video, and click Open at the bottom of the window.

Add event name. In the “Event Name” text field, enter the name you want to use. The name should be short and present the content of the event (eg “Grandfather’s 60th birthday party”).

Enter the location. Type the location or general area where the event took place in the “Location” text field.

Add start and end times. You add information in the respective fields “Start” and “End”.

  • If you create a private event, you will only see the “Start” field, from here click on the link + End Time to add the end time of the event.

Add description. Enter a description of the event in the “Description” dialog box. This is the right place to add information about rules, goals, event schedules, etc.

Edit other settings if desired. For example, public events allow you to add keywords so people can find your event. There is also an option to prevent event invitees from posting without permission.

    Click the Create or Create Private Event button. This is the blue button in the bottom right corner of the screen. This is used to post events. You can then invite friends by clicking Invite , selecting Choose Friends , and selecting friends.

    • Private events are only private on the guest side. If you want to discuss sensitive or personal matters, it’s best to stay away from Facebook.
