Ingredient

Regular Red Lentils

  • 1 cup peeled red lentils
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • Salt and chili to taste

Red Lentil Curry

  • 3 tablespoons canola oil
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves of minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 4 carrots, finely chopped
  • 1 large potato, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup red lentils
  • 4 cups vegetable broth
  • Salt and chili to taste

Red Lentil Soup

  • 1 cup red lentils
  • 3 cups broth
  • 3 ripe tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1/2 cup minced white or yellow onion
  • 3 cloves of minced garlic
  • 2 spoons of five flavors
  • 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Cook lentils. Pour the beans into the saucepan along with 3 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer and cook until beans are tender, about 12 minutes.

Crush peeled tomatoes.
Heat oil in a large oil pan. Heat over medium heat until the oil is hot.
Cook onions. Sauté for about 5 minutes, until onion is cooked.

Add garlic. Continue cooking for about 1 more minute.
Add five spices and turmeric powder.
Put the cooked beans in the pot. Put directly into the pot, water along with all the ingredients. Cook for about 10 more minutes.
