Download and install HTTrack. If you want to clone an entire website or a large number of web pages in the same location in one go, you need the help of an automatic website loader. These tools will automate the entire process, instead of you having to manually save each page which is very time consuming.

  • The most popular and powerful website cloning program is HTTrack, an open source software available for Windows and Linux. This program can clone an entire website, even an entire internet if it is (not) configured properly! You can download HTTrack for free at www.httrack.com .

Set the destination directory for the copied files. After opening HTTrack, you need to set a destination folder for the website copy, otherwise you will have a hard time finding them later.

  • Name the project to help you locate it. HTTrack will create a folder with the project name in the target folder.

Select “Download web site(s)” from the drop-down menu. This ensures that HTTrack will download all content from the website, including images and any other files.

Enter the address you want to copy. You can type multiple sites if you want to copy multiple sites to the project folder. By default, HTTrack will catch every possible link on the same web server from that website.

  • If the website to be copied requires you to log in, click the “Add URL” button to enter the website address, username, and password.

Start duplicating the site. After entering one or more URLs, you can start the copying process. Depending on the size of the site, the process can take a considerable amount of time and bandwidth to complete. HTTrack will show the progress of all the files you are copying to your computer. Check the copied site. Once the download is complete, you can open and browse the copied website directly on your computer. If you are online, open any HTM or HTML file with a web browser to view the page. You can also open these files with the web page editor to see all the code that makes the website work. The files will be located by default so that the link does not navigate to the web page but to the downloaded files and can be viewed offline.
