Warm up and relax your body. Climbing walls can strain your muscles if you don’t warm up well beforehand. Do some light exercise and warm up before climbing the wall.

Find a low wall to practice. Try to find a wall low enough that your hands can reach over the wall while your feet are still on the ground, but you can also choose a wall that is high enough that your arms can still touch the wall when you straighten it. Make sure you can stick to the wall. Walls with very slippery surfaces are not ideal for wall climbing.

Cling to the wall. Using both hands, do your best to touch the wall above. [1] X Research Source

  • Even though your feet are still touching the ground, try to keep your body dangling under your arms. The arms will expand as you cling to the wall.

Put your feet on the wall. One leg should be raised – near your waist – while the other foot should still be about 45cm off the ground. Always keep your feet directly under your body, not spread out to the sides. The toes and front of the foot should be properly bent so that they are in contact with the wall.

Push and pull your body up. Do it gently. First push the body up with the legs, and then pull the body up with the arms.

  • Use your foot to push against the wall. At first, the body will be parallel to the wall, and this move will seem to be pushing you away. However, your arms are gripping the wall, so the thrust will help your body lift.
  • As soon as you start gaining momentum with leg thrust, you should pull up your upper body.

Cross the wall. As you pull your body over the wall, kick your back leg and push your body through. Repeat this move until your body weight (lower body) is over the wall.

Rotate the back foot forward. Put your front foot over the wall, then you’re done climbing the wall. You can also swing one leg forward just below your body and the other behind. If you are already on the wall, stand up. Instead of climbing vertically, you can also slide along the wall to the other side.

Find two walls that are close to each other. In the city, it is easy to find two buildings separated by a small alley. The ideal distance should be greater than the distance between your elbows when you extend your arms out to your sides.

Place both hands and feet on the wall. The left arm and leg will climb one wall, while the other limb will climb the other. [2] X Research Source Use strong pressure on both walls to keep your body climbing.

Move your limbs to one side at the same time. When you do that move, you will have to increase the pressure on the other limb when climbing a particular wall.
  • Advice

    • If you can’t climb over the low wall, try your hand at the lower wall. After you’ve climbed over, try climbing a higher/thicker wall.
    • Never rush to climb the wall. It is best to practice slowly.
    • Wear gloves because climbing the wall can injure you the first time. Gloves will also help you grip a thick, rough wall.

    Warning

    • Do not move too fast when you are clinging to the wall. This can cause burning, blistering, or injury.
    • Do not attempt to climb walls in public or crowded places.

    Things you need

    • Glove.
    • Safety mattress/pillow underneath.
    • Confidence.
    • Empty stomach (don’t climb the wall after eating).
