Erase all data on the phone

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/d/df/Delete-History-on-Android-Device-Step-20-Version-2.jpg/v4-728px-Delete- History-on-Android-Device-Step-20-Version-2.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/d/df/Delete-History-on-Android- Device-Step-20-Version-2.jpg/v4-728px-Delete-History-on-Android-Device-Step-20-Version-2.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:345,” bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:546,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser-output”></div>”}
Back up the data you want to save. If you’re selling or giving away your phone, it’s a good idea to erase all of the data on the device first. Thus, you do not need to worry about your personal information falling into the wrong hands. All data on your phone will be erased when you do this; so you need to make sure your contacts, media and other important information are backed up somewhere.

Encrypt Android phone. Similar to computers, the hard drive of an Android device that has been erased is usually not completely erased, but set to be overwritten. This means that other people just need to have time and use the right software to be able to recover data. To avoid potential security risks, you need to encrypt your phone before erasing anything. This prevents others from being able to access your data, even if the device is restored using data recovery software.

  • Fully charge the phone battery. Encryption takes time, so you’ll need to fully charge your phone and connect it to a power source.
  • Open Android’s Settings by tapping the Settings app on the home screen or the App Drawer.
  • Tap the Security section. Scroll down and select “Encrypt phone”. Create a PIN that you will use to access your encrypted phone.
  • Wait for the encryption process to complete. This process takes about an hour and interrupting the process can cause the phone to fail.

    Reinstall the phone. Return to the Settings menu and select “Backup & reset”. Select “Factory data reset”. You will be asked to confirm and enter the PIN for encryption. The phone will begin the reset process shortly after and it usually takes a few minutes. When the phone has completed the reset process, all data will be erased and the device will return to the condition it was in when it was purchased. The phone is now safe to sell or give away.
