Overwrite smudges with an erasable marker. Indelible pens and markers will leave permanent marks on the whiteboard and can be very difficult to remove. Even erasable marker ink can stain the board over time. To remove such stains, start by overwriting the stains with an erasable marker. [1] X Research Source
Allow the ink stain to dry. You should only wait for a few seconds. Then, wipe away the ink stains with a rag or whiteboard eraser.

  • Wet ink stains will cause old ink to bleed and come off the board, so when erasing erasable ink stains, those that cannot be erased will fade as well.

Repeat the operation if necessary. For stubborn stains and indelible ink marks, repeat the cleaning process. Overwrite the ink stains with erasable ink, allow to dry, and then clean the board with a rag or eraser.
Clean and wipe the board. Once indelible stains or ink stains have been removed, clean the board to remove any remaining marks. Moisten the rag with detergent and vigorously wipe the board with a damp rag. Wipe off any remaining cleaning solution and allow the board to dry. Some commonly used cleaners for whiteboards are: [2] X Research Source

  • Isopropyl alcohol (also called rubbing alcohol)
  • Antibacterial hand sanitizer
  • Acetone or nail polish remover that contains acetone
  • Mix water with a few drops of soap.
  • Orange cleaners (like Goo Gone and Fantastik)
  • Glass cleaner water
  • Baby wet wipes
  • Pam spray cooking oil or other spray cooking oils

Wipe the board thoroughly with a wet solution. Moisten a rag or board sponge with your favorite cleaning solution. Make sure you are in a well-ventilated area if you intend to use harsh chemicals. Use a rag to apply the cleaning solution to the whiteboard and wipe vigorously. [4] X Research Sources
  • Clean and dry the board. Once the ink stain has been removed, rinse the rag or board sponge with clean water to remove the cleaning solution. Wring out the rag and use this damp rag to wipe across the whiteboard. This will remove any remaining cleaning solution. Then, dry the board with a clean, dry rag.
  • Advice
