How to Clean a piston ring

Weak engine and heavy exhaust fumes are the main signs. Over time, oil and deposits build up around the rings, meaning the rings can’t move well and can become completely stuck. When this happens, fuel and smoke will leak into the engine and its performance degrades. The main signs are that the car emits a lot of white or black smoke, and the engine is weak when you accelerate. ^[2]

Disassemble the piston and wipe off any residue. This is a complicated job because you have to remove the engine by draining all the oil, disconnecting the wires and pipes, removing the bolts between the engine and transmission, and then lifting the engine out of the car. Then pull the piston out from the bottom of the engine. After removing the piston, remove the 3 rings and spray cleaner into the grooves. Use a flat-head tool to scrape off any residue that has accumulated in the grooves. Spray cleaner on the rings and wipe clean with a rag. • There are specialized piston cleaning tools for sale, so you can use this tool. Some mechanics also use old or damaged piston rings to clean the grooves on the piston, because it fits into these grooves.
• Most car parts cleaners can be used. You must purchase a grease cleaner or a carbon cleaner designed for cars.
• This is a complicated job and requires a lot of car repair skills. If you’ve never worked with a car before, it’s a good idea to hire a professional.

Pump the cleaner onto the piston to dissolve the dirt as much or as much. This is a quick method and there is no need to disassemble the motor. First, remove all spark plugs around the engine.
