The number of ringtones on Android phones is controlled by the service provider, which cannot be changed in the phone’s Settings. However, you can usually use a self-service code to set how long the call should ring before forwarding (between 5 and 30 seconds). If your provider doesn’t support self-service codes, contact them to request a change for you. If you just want the ringtone to be longer or shorter, but don’t care about the ring time, you can choose a different ringtone in the Settings section. This wikiHow teaches you how to increase or decrease the length of your Android ringtone before an incoming call is sent to voicemail.

Open the Phone app on Android. The app has a phone receiver icon and is usually located near the bottom of the home screen. While there’s no way to specify the number of rings, you can specify the number of seconds to ring before the call is routed to voicemail.

  • Self-service codes are not available with all providers. The next steps are for T-Mobile carriers, and may also work with third-party services that use the T-Mobile network. [1] X Research Source
  • If this method doesn’t work for your phone, call your carrier’s customer service switchboard (usually you just need to dial *611 on Android to do it) and let them know the time (from 5 -30 seconds) that you want the call to ring before being routed to voicemail.

Dial *#61# and press the call button. After a few seconds, the phone will display a full information screen, which includes the phone number.

  • If this code gives an error, the current provider does not support this option. Most providers will still allow you to change the number of seconds it rings before forwarding.

Write down the phone number. This is your voicemail service provider’s phone number. You’ll need to enter this number as part of the long code in the next step, so don’t forget to write it down correctly.

  • For example, if you use T-Mobile the phone number will be 18056377243 .

Dial the service code. The code needs to be entered in the following format: **61*voicemailphonenumber**seconds# . Replace “voicemailphonenumber” with the phone number you recorded in the previous step, replace “seconds” with 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 to specify the number of seconds to ring before the call is routed to voicemail .

  • For example, if the phone number you recorded is 18056377243 and you want the incoming call to ring for 15 seconds, enter **61*18056377243**15# .
  • Although ringtone lengths vary, in general, 10 seconds is about 3 or 4 rings, and 30 seconds is about 5-6 rings.

Click the call button. As long as you enter the correct information (and this feature is supported by your carrier), a screen will pop up confirming that your call forwarding settings have been updated.

  • If you want to undo this setting in the future, dial the previous code again but replace the number you entered with 30 (as default).

of Android. To proceed, swipe down from the top of the home screen and then tap the gear icon in the upper-right corner.

  • While there’s no setting on Android to change a specific number of rings, you can choose a longer or shorter ringtone to adjust the duration of the ring.
  • This doesn’t change the time it takes for the call to go to voicemail, but just the number of rings you’ll hear.
