Call (video chat) your dad if you don’t live with him. Thanks to modern technology, you can still see your dad on Father’s Day even if you can’t meet him in person. Invite your dad to join a video call with you via Zoom, Skype, or FaceTime. [1] X Research Source

  • Plan ahead with dad so he can download video chat software to your phone, computer or tablet. If your dad isn’t tech savvy, call first to teach him how to download the software.
  • Some video chat applications like Zoom allow you to set the wallpaper. Surprise him by uploading a Father’s Day wallpaper to your phone, or make a real sign and hang it behind your back.

  • If you like to cook, you can cook your own meals to celebrate Father’s Day. Set the table beautifully and give your dad a restaurant-like experience.
  • Even if you don’t live with your dad, you can still order food delivered to his house. Video chat dad while you’re eating to share a virtual party!

Go to the park or go for a walk if your dad likes it. If he doesn’t like to be restrained, go with him to the park or go hiking. You can even invite some friends to join you for a walk, as long as you keep a safe distance. [3] X Cleveland Clinic Trusted Source Go to Source

  • If you plan to go with others, remember to keep a minimum distance of 2 meters. Avoid going to crowded parks that make it impossible for you to keep this safe distance.
  • Don’t forget to bring your picnic essentials, like food, water, and hand sanitizer.

Create a virtual tour or concert for your dad to enjoy at home. If your dad feels safer at home, create a virtual ride for him. Go with him to a museum or national park, or live stream a concert together. [4] X Research Sources

  • You can explore many national parks and museums online using the Google Arts and Culture app. For example, take your dad on a 3D virtual trip through the Grand Canyon or Yosemite Park on their website. [5] X Research Sources
  • If your dad loves animals, check to see if his favorite zoo or fish park offers a virtual tour.

[6] X Research Resources Find an online class on your dad’s topic or interest, or pick up something completely new for the two of you to study together!

  • For example, if your dad enjoys experimenting with cooking, sign him up for an online cooking class. Or if your dad likes art, find a painting or sculpting class.
  • If you want your dad to choose his own classes, you can buy a full-access pass for him, such as a MasterClass or Skillshare card.

  • If you have a projector and a large yard, you can organize an outdoor movie session! Hang a white sheet on the wall or aim the projector at an empty wall, then arrange chairs for the whole family to sit and watch movies outdoors.

Determine Father’s Day. There is nothing worse than forgetting or making a great plan to celebrate Father’s Day only to realize it was the wrong day. Father’s Day is celebrated on different dates depending on the country. However, in the US and UK, Father’s Day is always celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of June, so this date is not fixed every year. [9] X Research Source

  • If you are not sure what Father’s Day is, do a quick search on the internet with the keyword “Father’s Day + year + country you live”, you will have the answer in the blink of an eye.

Think about what would make your dad happy. How to celebrate Father’s Day is largely based on knowing what your dad likes and what activities will make the day fun-filled. You can organize an exciting adventure or simply do all the errands around the house to give Dad a break. [10] X Research Source

  • Plan at least one activity your dad enjoys for you and your child to enjoy together. Maybe your dad enjoys going fishing, playing catch or hanging out with the whole family to play board games. Choose an activity that your dad enjoys.
  • Dads do a lot of work, from taking care of the house, taking the kids to school or training to being there for you and listening when you’re having a hard time. Think of something your dad did for you and think about what you can do to repay him. Maybe this is simply mowing the lawn in the yard.

Get everyone involved. If you have siblings, you can get everyone together to plan something cool for dad. Father’s Day will be even more memorable if all of you join in celebrating the holiday with dad. If you don’t have siblings, you can ask your mother or grandparents for help.

  • For example, you can write a song together to sing on Father’s Day or work together to make a greeting card for Dad.
  • Alternatively, you could give each sibling a Father’s Day chore. For example, you might take charge of making breakfast for your dad, one of your siblings will be responsible for controlling the TV to play his favorite sports and favorite snacks, another can I can massage my dad’s feet.

Plan an outdoor party or picnic for dad. If your dad isn’t the kind of person who likes to receive gifts but just enjoys being around the family, you can organize an activity where he can enjoy what he enjoys.

  • For example, if your dad loves barbeque, you can gather everything you need for a barbecue in the yard and invite some of his friends over to celebrate Father’s Day.
  • If Dad likes to fish, you can arrange an all-day fishing session just the two of you (or the whole family, if you prefer).
  • Remember to tell your dad about the idea of organizing big projects! You don’t want to go through the trouble of throwing an entire party and then find out that your dad doesn’t like it.

Celebrate with Dad

Let dad sleep more. If your father likes to sleep in but doesn’t have the opportunity because of work and children, help him sleep well today. Don’t go back and forth and make noises to wake Dad up. Let dad sleep for as long as he wants and start celebrating when he’s ready. [11] X Research Source

  • If you’re going to bring him breakfast to bed, you can still let him sleep a few hours more than usual.

Happy Father’s Day Dad. This may sound obvious, but don’t forget to announce that today is Father’s Day. When you see your father in the morning, shout out loud with a joyful voice, “Happy Father’s Day!” Don’t forget to hug dad!

  • This is a good thing to do first thing in the morning, so your dad will know you haven’t forgotten and you’re excited to celebrate the day with him.

Ask dad what he wants to do. You can think of countless ideas to celebrate Father’s instant, but don’t forget that you’re not the main character. Ask him how he feels and what he likes to do that day. [12] X Research Source

  • Try to respect your father’s wishes. If you’ve prepared a whole list of Father’s Day ideas, but your dad says he just wants to relax on the sofa, let him do what he likes.
  • Your dad might want to do something alone or with your mom on Father’s Day. For example, maybe he wants to fix his car alone in the garage, or wants to go somewhere quiet for the weekend. If he wants to, don’t make him feel guilty.

Make Father’s Day full of joy. One of the most important aspects of this day is that you are present and caring. Gifts are great, but showing love and reminding your dad that you’re proud of him and everything he does for you will be the most important thing to celebrate Father’s day.

  • For many fathers, the greatest reward for fathers is the feeling of being loved and valued by their children and spouse.
  • As long as you show affection or hug your father and say he loves him very much, your father will know how much he is loved by his children.

Talk to dad. This is quite simple, but you should not take it lightly. In everyday life, it is easy to forget the precious time spent with family. On Father’s Day, make sure to spend time with your dad. Tell your dad about things at school that you haven’t told him, confide in him about events that happened in your life. [13] X Research Source

  • Don’t just tell your story! Ask him how his work is going or ask him about his childhood.
  • Try to avoid topics that can lead to arguments. Don’t let Father’s Day end in disagreement.

Make this day a family event. Father’s Day can be a wonderful day for the whole family. Plan a family event that brings everyone together to celebrate Father’s Day.

  • However, be aware of your father’s personality. Is your dad the type who likes large gatherings of families? For some people, large gatherings are exhausting and uncomfortable.
  • Consider bringing together all the fathers in the family, not just your dad or your partner. Maybe you want to get uncles, brothers, grandparents, even stepfathers together for part of Father’s day, such as a full dinner.

Create a photo slideshow. Create a slideshow with lots of pictures of dad. You can collect pictures of your father from his childhood; family photos, dad’s private photos with friends, even funny pictures. Reviewing photos with dad will be a great way for father and son to reminisce about happy memories.

  • If the photos are in the album; everyone can watch the album together.
  • This is especially helpful if you’re close to your dad. Old photos will evoke stories between father and son.

Buy or make a card for dad. A card works great, and sometimes means more than a gift.

  • If you are going to buy a card for dad on Father’s Day, remember not to wait until the last minute to buy it, because there may not be many cards left for you to choose from. Buy a card that matches your dad’s personality; a funny card if your dad likes to joke, or it’s heartwarming to let him know how much you love him.
  • You can also make cards for dad. If you make your own card, you will have your own unique card and design it to suit your father. In the card, you can tell how you love your father, or you can draw a portrait of the father and son together.

Come up with a creative gift. Father’s Day doesn’t have to be a gift, but if you want to buy or make a gift for dad, you should try to find something creative. Don’t just buy a tie or a pair of socks. When shopping for gifts, remember to see if there’s something your dad often talks about or you know he likes but hesitates to buy.

  • Handmade gifts are also great. For example, you could think about and list many of the things your dad taught you to do (such as playing badminton, riding a bike or how to treat people, etc.) and write a book. You can create the book online or just do it yourself. You can stick pictures of you and your dad in the book.

Tell your dad that you’re grateful to him. Being a father is a difficult task. If you’re having a party, raise a toast to your dad in front of everyone and express your love and gratitude to him. If you don’t have a party, just talk to your dad privately.

  • Try to speak profound words. Even though you can say a simple “Thank you dad for being such a good dad,” take the time to think about something more profound. For example, you might recall a few things your dad did last year that meant a lot to you and say, “Last year, I worked so hard to keep you healthy and happy. I know I should have said this more often, but I don’t take what you do for me for granted, and I love you so much. What I remember most is the day when you took the day off to take me shopping for a new game that I really liked.”

Do errands around the house for dad. If your dad has a whole to-do list every day (such as taking out the trash, making the bed, doing the laundry, washing the dishes, etc.), tell him you’ll do all the chores. It’s for me on Father’s Day so I can rest. [14] X Research Source

  • If there’s a task you know your dad doesn’t particularly like (like mowing the lawn), you can say that you’ll take on it on Father’s Day.

Cook a meal for dad. If you know what your dad likes to eat, plan to cook for him on this day. You can also make your dad’s favorite dessert. For example, if your dad likes chocolate chip cookies, you can make a cake just for him.

  • If your dad likes to cook, you can arrange to cook together.
  • You can also surprise him with breakfast in bed if you think he likes it.

Don’t put pressure on dad. On Father’s Day, you can make countless plans for dad. If you know this, your father can accommodate all your arrangements to make you happy. However, don’t forget that this is Father’s Day, so keep an eye on his mood. If he seems tired or not really excited about your plans, ask him what he likes to do.

    • Don’t get angry or frustrated when things don’t go as planned. Your dad probably wouldn’t be happy to see you like that. Take it easy, have fun and don’t stress.
    • You don’t have to celebrate every second with Dad on Father’s Day. You should give him time to do what he wants without you wandering around.
  • Advice

    • Father’s day photo shoot. Photos will help you remember this day, and you can also use those images as part of a gift for dad next year.
    • Don’t hesitate to let him know how much you love him. Although men don’t usually express their feelings as much as women do, their feelings are no less. Your dad will be very happy to know how much the family values and loves him.
    • You don’t have to keep playing one game after another. An activity or two is a good idea, but if it’s too much, your dad may not have time to relax and will lose interest.
