Burn Data CDs on Windows

Learn burning data CDs. If you just want to save files and folders on a CD, you can burn the necessary files/folders to a CD. Data CDs cannot be played with an audio player, but can be played and viewed as other forms of storage (such as USB).

Insert the blank CD into the computer’s drive. You need to make sure the CD is empty before doing this.

  • If the CD is already in use, you need to erase the data in the disc first..
  • The drive must be of the DVD type. You can determine this by looking at the “DVD” icon on or near the disc tray.

Select the folder to save the file. Click the folder containing the file you want to burn. You will find the folder on the left side of the window.

Select a file to record. Click and drag the mouse pointer over a group of files to select them all, or you hold the Ctrl key while clicking each file to select multiple individual files.

  • If you just want to burn a file (such as an ISO), just click on that file.
  • Most CDs can only store files up to 700MB in size.

Click the Share tab in the upper-left corner of the window. You’ll see a toolbar display near the top of the window.

Click Burn to disc in the “Send” section of the toolbar. The screen will display a new window.

Click Burn at the bottom of the window. This will start burning the file to the CD.

  • The time it takes to finish burning will depend on the size and number of files you want to burn.

Click Finish at the bottom of the screen when prompted. You can now eject the recorded CD from the computer.

Open Disk Utility. Type disk utility into the displayed search bar, then double-click the Disk Utility result.

Open Windows Media Player. Type windows media player , then click Windows Media Player above the search results.

  • If you don’t see Windows Media Player in the search results, it’s not installed on your computer.
  • If you don’t have Windows Media Player installed on your computer, you’ll need to use iTunes. Download and install iTunes on your computer, then move on to the instructions in the next method.

Add music to the “Burn” tag. Click and drag the selected songs onto the “Burn” tab in the pane on the right side of the window, then release the mouse button. You will see all the selected songs in the “Burn” tab.
