This article shows you how to block ads from appearing when you use Google Chrome on computers and phones, along with how to block ads on your computer’s Google Chrome browser with the AdBlock and Adblock Plus extensions. However, although using the AdBlock extension removes embedded ads like those found on Facebook, you cannot use it to hide ads on Chrome mobile.

  • If you see “Blocked on sites that tend to show intrusive ads (recommended)” and a gray slider here, Chrome has blocked advertisement.

  • Fanboy’s Annoyances – Remove annoying elements from the web.
  • Malware protection – Blocks malicious sites.

If you still see ads after installing an ad blocker: This is because ads and websites are constantly changing, so the ad blocker cannot recognize all ads, especially when the new version has not been updated. If you see an ad, right-click the ad blocker to pause or disable the ad. This helps the ad blocker recognize the ad, and you won’t see it anymore.

Uncheck the “Allow Acceptable Ads” box. It’s an option in the “Acceptable Ads” section near the top of the page. This selection allows some ads to show, so unchecking will increase the number of ads blocked.

  • If this box is unchecked, Adblock Plus is blocking annoying ads.

    • You can add ad-type-specific filters (such as ads displayed on the side of a Facebook page) to Adblock Plus and AdBlock right from the extension’s Options menu.

    • You may not be able to visit some websites while using an ad blocker. To access these sites, you need to whitelist them by opening your ad blocker’s Options page, selecting Whitelist , and entering the website’s URL.
