However, when you attend a party, you feel like a “fish out of water” and become shy and lack confidence. Or perhaps you feel confident around your friends, but less confident in situations at work. Whatever the reason, there are many situations where you feel that you need to improve your self-confidence. Behaving confidently is part of building confidence. You can achieve this by making changes in the way you think about yourself and in the way you act.

Identify factors that give you confidence. Once you understand the situation that makes you feel confident in yourself, you can transfer this skill to other situations.

  • Write down a list of situations in which you feel confident. For each situation, write about what made you feel confident in that situation. Example: “I feel confident around my friends. Reason: I’ve known them for a long time. I know they don’t judge me. They accept their true selves.”
  • Write about a situation where you did not feel confident. For each situation, write about what is preventing you from becoming confident. Minimize internal criticism. Negative thinking can make many people miserable. They are often based on untrue beliefs of the individual. This type of thinking can include “I am not good enough”, “I am unlucky”, or “I always screw things up”.

  • Acknowledge these thoughts as they arise. You simply formed a few bad habits throughout your development. Changing them is completely within your control.
  • Reverse thinking. You should form positive thoughts and check to see which ones are true. For example, if you say, “I’m so unlucky,” reverse that thought with the elements you have in your life that make you feel lucky. For example, you might remind yourself, “I have a house to live in, food to eat, and clothes to wear. I have friends and family who always love me. Last year, I won the lottery 1 million dong.
  • You need to understand that the inner judgment will not be really accurate. Minimizing it can help you behave with confidence because you will feel more confident without any people who can upset you.
