Make a list of your own skills and interests. Do research on what excites you. This factor is different for each person. Being aware of your interests is a very important step to both communicating effectively and being perceived as an interesting person by others. Sharpen your skills by studying the skills you are good at. This approach is easier than trying to force yourself to learn more about something you don’t enjoy at all. [1] X Research Source Todd, S. (2013). Explore Passions: Perspectives on Education, Culture, and the Unrepresented. Routledge.

  • Think about qualities and activities that you find attractive. What do you think is interesting, whether about yourself or about other people?
  • It’s easier to have a conversation about a topic you already have a little bit of interest in, as opposed to acting interested in other people’s lives just to make them happy.

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/d/da/Become-a-More-Interesting-Person-Step-2-Version-3.jpg/v4-728px-Become- a-More-Interesting-Person-Step-2-Version-3.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/d/da/Become-a-More-Interesting- Person-Step-2-Version-3.jpg/v4-728px-Become-a-More-Interesting-Person-Step-2-Version-3.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:345,” bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:546,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser-output”></div>”}
Think about what it means to be “interesting” in the eyes of others. Determining what is “interesting” – and how you can quickly achieve this – will depend on your unique skills and the group of people you enjoy interacting with the most. For example, if you consider yourself a gifted musician, and enjoy meeting people with a good musical taste, then being interesting has to do with knowledge of music and how to play an instrument. On the other hand, those factors may not be able to make you more interesting if you are inherently fond of sports and cars.

  • This does not mean that you should completely tailor the conversation in a way that is more suitable for the other person. If you are not interested in what you have to say, you will not be an interesting person. You should remember to maintain your integrity during this process.

Appreciate your uniqueness. You should be aware that you are by nature an interesting human being. You can further enhance this characteristic when you emphasize some of your own unique qualities.

  • This may sound paradoxical at first, but really, trying to be yourself is the best way to always look good. This will also make everyone around you feel more comfortable.
  • Remember that you are a complete and complete person with intrinsic values. Everyone makes mistakes, but that doesn’t make you a less than great person!

Try out new activities to expand your comfort zone. Try doing some new activity that interests you. As you expand your comfort zone, you’ll be able to step out of your old rut. You will add excitement to your life. You will meet new people. Be open to trying new activities so you can learn more about how to become bolder. [2] X Research Source

  • You could volunteer at a nonprofit, or learn a sport or pursue a hobby. Pick something you have no experience with and start doing it!

Build your personality by doing specific activities. The goal of becoming more interesting may involve becoming more courageous or friendly. But it will be difficult for you to achieve these characteristics unless you have a clear plan in place. You should try out a specific activity or skill, rather than focusing on building your character.

  • For example, instead of convincing yourself that you need to be bolder, simply engage in certain risky activities. Or, you can opt for rock climbing if you’re afraid of heights, or visit a zoo if you’re afraid of animals. By pushing yourself to step out of your comfort zone, over time, you will feel more comfortable participating in an activity that you or others consider quite enjoyable.

Meet new people. As you expand your social network, you increase your ability to put yourself in more interesting situations and activities. You should ask other people about themselves.

  • Once you’re able to get someone to start talking about yourself, you’ll probably discover that person has an in-depth understanding of beekeeping, an activity you’ve always wanted to try.

Travel as much as possible. Seeing new places in the world with your own eyes can make you more attuned to the subtle variation among people from different backgrounds or ethnicities. [3] X Research Sources Sometimes, being sensitive to the effects of this difference on others and on yourself will make people feel more comfortable around you.

  • This method will also help you get a better sense of the excitement in different parts of the world.
  • Make your next vacation a special one. You can go to a new place and do something you don’t normally do. Maybe it’s activities like exploring, surfing, climbing, or going into the woods.

Read more. Read books on interesting topics such as how to make a unique cocktail, new places to travel, or how to be a great lover. They will give you quite a bit of information to build an engaging conversation.

Interacting with Others

Learn to focus on other people’s interests. It is important that you learn to pay attention to others even when you are not excited about the topic you are both talking about. Conversation is like negotiating back and forth with the other party. It can turn in many different directions. Maintaining an open mind during this process is quite important to becoming a more interesting person. You can ask questions to show interest. This action will also help develop the dialogue to provide more material to yourself and help you learn about questions you can ask the other person.

  • For example, if you know that the person is a professional beekeeper, you could ask, “I’ve always wanted to learn about beekeeping. How did you get started?” You are allowing your partner to share your interests, and this is what most people like.
  • If you’re talking to someone about their work, you might say, “Have you always wanted to be a journalist?”, or “Which journalist do you admire the most?”. [4] X Research Sources

Meet people you find interesting. Look for someone with skills and interests that you admire. Prioritize spending time with them. You need to remember that the people you hang out with will influence the development of your personality and interests. [6] X Research Sources Jetten, J., Haslam, C., & Haslam, A., S. (2012). The Remedy for Society: Identity, Health, and Wellness. Journal of Psychology. The sphere of influence in society, from your local community to your own country, can affect you openly and subtly. Observing other interesting people will also be a great way to get you on the right track.

  • Everyone has fears, memories, and desires, and everyone you meet can directly or indirectly help you learn something. Sometimes it takes a little digging to figure out what it is.

Smile and laugh as often as possible. Research has shown that even when you’re not really happy, the gentle act of smiling can release chemicals in your brain that help you feel more at ease with your surroundings. And as a result, your smile conveys this feeling to others. [8] X Sources of Research Rossouw, Pieter (2013) The neuroscience of smiling and laughing. Psychiatrist, 1 1: doi:10.12744/ijnpt.2013 Smiling and laughing have been shown to ease symptoms of mild depression and anxiety. [7] X Trusted Source International DOI Foundation (IDF) Go to Source

  • If you want to be a more interesting person, but don’t know how to start, smiling more often and putting yourself in a situation where you can make yourself laugh would be a great place to start.

Learn to ignore the offensive or disrespectful behavior of others. Everyone has their own preferences and attitudes. You can’t be interesting to everyone. You should be satisfied with yourself. Accept that everyone doesn’t necessarily think you’re interesting, or like you. This will make you more interesting to people who truly respect your unique nature.

  • Just accept the person, because you can’t say they’re wrong. Tell yourself, “This person must be having a bad day.” Then say something kind to them. This statement will make them feel so uncomfortable that they may realize that they have become rude.
  • You can try to exaggerate the insult, and this act also acts as sarcasm before the insult. If someone says to you, “I’ve met a lot of people who can learn to ski faster than you,” you might respond by saying, “I just learned how to walk upright. , so I think I’m learning pretty fast.” [8] X Research Sources

Understand what others like to hear. While being interesting can also be through talking about yourself, it also means showing interest in others. Ask about the person’s children, or ask about details of a recent vacation. You should put the other person at ease by making yourself easy to talk to. [9] X Research Source

Make a question. Don’t let the conversation go to a dead end due to a lack of necessary attention. You should ask questions to keep the conversation going. This will also show that you are listening and paying attention to their words. [10] X Research Source

  • Ask open-ended questions during the conversation. This type of question will encourage the other person to say more, rather than just giving a brief yes or no.

Learn how to become a good storyteller. Someone is considered interesting when they have the ability to bring excitement to the audience. Regardless of the topic, that person can build a great story. They tie the story to a fun detail, grab the audience’s attention, and focus on the topic at hand.

  • A great story will contain some of the same specific elements found in books or movies. It will have compelling characters, logical details, contradictions, twists and turns, and even an unexpected ending. [11] X Research Sources Even if it’s just a short story, you should think about how you can build a more compelling story for your audience.

Become an active listener. Often, you can become interesting by allowing people around you to express your thoughts without interrupting, or imposing any moral judgment. While it sounds pretty easy, the process can turn out to be extremely difficult. This is especially true if you’re used to stating things bluntly without pausing to think things through. Active listening means that you follow through with everything the other person is saying without interrupting your own ideas and feelings into the conversation. [14] X Research Sources ROST MICHAEL, & JJ WILSON (2013). Active Listening. Harlow, UK: Pearson Education Ltd.

  • Active listening also means that you maintain your attention on what the other person is saying without trying to think about what you are going to say next. The next time someone tells you a story, simply allow them to talk as much as they like and pay full attention to their words for the duration of the conversation.
  • Observe a change in the other person’s facial expression or tone of voice. Good listening skills require you to pay attention to non-verbal elements as much as words. [13] X Research Source
  • People often enjoy being around people who allow them the opportunity to speak their mind.

Use confident body language. You should build confidence in your posture. Straighten your shoulders and hold your head high. You can also show emotion through your hand gestures, instead of just reaching into your pocket.

    • When talking to other people, you should show absolute attention to the other person through confident body language. This means turning your body directly towards the person and looking them in the eye. [14] X Research Sources If you are in a place where there are many distractions, you should do your best to focus on the other person.
