This wikiHow teaches you how to download a zip file containing all of your Gmail information to your computer. However, you can’t do this with the Gmail app on your phone.

Go to your Google account page . All the Google account settings and information you need are stored here.

  • If you’re not signed in to your Google account, click Sign in or Sign in in the upper-right corner of the screen, enter your email address and password, and then click Sign in .

Click on Personal info & privacy or Personal info & security located in the middle of the page.

Click Contrp your content or Control your content . This option is in the menu on the left side of the screen, below the “Personal info & privacy” heading.

Click Create Archive or Create Archive . This option is on the right side of the page, just under “Download your data” or “Download your data”.

Next, pick out what’s on the account you want to back up. Here, all Google products on your account are preselected by default.

  • If you don’t want to download everything, at least make sure that the “Mail” or “Mail” section is selected before continuing.
  • You’ll see a down arrow to the right of “All mail” or “All mail” – click that and you can choose between downloading all messages or downloading only those labeled as you select.

Click the Next or Next button located at the bottom of the screen.

Look at the “File type” or “File type” section near the top of the page, it should be set to “.zip”.

  • On most computers, we can easily open the ZIP file by double clicking on it. ZIP files are also the file types that take up the least amount of space compared to other options in the “File type” menu.

Click on a size that you think is appropriate. Any data larger than this size will be moved to a new file.

  • For example, if you choose a maximum size of “4GB” while your archive is 6GB, after the download is complete you will have two files: a 4GB file and a 2GB file.

Click the box below “Delivery method” or “Delivery method”. There are many ways you can get backup files:

  • Send download link via email or Send download link via email – A link to download the file will be sent to your current Gmail address. When you click on the link, the file will be downloaded.
  • Add to Drive or Add to Drive – Save downloaded files in Google Drive. These files will be charged according to the storage portion of Google Drive.
  • Add to Dropbox or Add to Dropbox – Files will be saved to your connected Dropbox account (if you have one).
  • Add to OneDrive or Add to OneDrive – Files will be saved to your connected OneDrive account (if you have one).

Click on the delivery method. You should rely on the maximum storage file size to choose the right delivery, because your backup file may be too large for the cloud capacity.
