WhatsApp chat data is just as important as plain text messages on a phone. To prevent data loss if your phone is stolen or damaged, you should back up your WhatsApp messages. Luckily, you can do this right from the app’s settings menu.

Make sure iCloud Drive is turned on. You will need to access iCloud Drive to backup WhatsApp messages. Let’s:

  • Tap the Settings app to open Settings.
  • Tap the “iCloud” tab.
  • Tap the “iCloud Drive” tab.
  • Swipe the iCloud Drive slider to the right (it will turn green).

Exit the Settings app. You can press the Home button to return to the main screen.

Wait for the backup to complete. When WhatsApp has finished backing up, you’ll see a “Last Backup: Today” message at the top of the Chat Backup page.
