Steps

Use home remedies

Drink a lot of water. A well-hydrated body will allow you to speak more smoothly, sing more smoothly and maintain overall throat health, so your voice will be stronger and always feel comfortable. You should drink 8 glasses of water at room temperature every day.

  • Avoid drinking ice cold water if you are a singer or often have to scream or strain your voice. Instead, drink warm water. Imagine you soak in ice water after a workout, what will happen? Your body will be tense, no matter how refreshing you feel.
Drink warm, soothing waters. If you have frequent hoarseness, a common way to soothe your throat is to drink warm water. Milk and sticky liquids will coat the throat, making it difficult for the voice to stay clear and clear. You can drink tea, coffee and other hot drinks. [2] X Research Source

  • One of the most popular home remedies is herbal tea mixed with a teaspoon of lemon juice and honey. Chamomile tea, spearmint, lemongrass, and licorice all work to soothe the throat. [3] X Research Sources
  • Don’t drink too hot tea; You may have a sore throat and not be able to speak comfortably. Drinking warm tea is best. [4] X Research Sources

Avoid sticky foods and drinks. Some foods constrict the throat and make it easier to hoarse, while others coat the mouth and throat. To reduce your risk of cracking your voice, you should avoid foods like:

  • Spicy foods such as hot peppers, curries and salsa [5] X Research Source
  • Fatty foods such as butter cookies, cookies or sweet desserts [6] X Research Source
  • Fried foods like chips, fried fish or fried chicken [7] X Research Source
Try throat lozenges. Vocal Zone is an herbal lozenge commonly used by professional singers to prevent voice cracking before performing. This lozenge soothes, numbs and clears the throat without causing drowsiness. These lozenges are much more effective than regular “cold cures” lozenges.

  • Vocal Zone lozenges have a bitter taste and feel like medicine, but the results are well worth it.

Techniques of speaking and singing

Understand what causes voice cracking. Vocal breaks most commonly occur in boys entering puberty between the ages of 10 and 16. Some children go through puberty without a noticeable break in their voice, but others experience it for a long time. Depending on the person’s age and condition, voice cracking can be caused by a variety of reasons, some of which are manageable, and some of which the only solution is to wait until it stabilizes. [8] X Research Sources

  • As boys reach puberty, testosterone production levels skyrocket to support the rapid growth of the body, including the larynx. As the larynx gets bigger, the voice becomes deeper and more resonant, but it takes time for the body to adapt to the rapidly changing changes. In the end, your voice will be steady and usually have a lower range.
  • For girls, voice cracking most often occurs when the voice is strained when singing or speaking with high intensity. Risky behaviors such as smoking and alcohol abuse can also strain the voice and lead to voice cracking. The best way to avoid voice cracking is to strengthen the vocal cords through vocal exercises and to stop risky behaviors.
Breathe from the belly. When you lie on your back, you breathe differently than when you stand up straight. You’ll breathe more deeply from your belly, which strengthens your voice and controllability. “belly breathing” is a technique often taught to speakers or singers, and you can also learn this technique.

  • Practice lying on the floor with 1-2 books on your stomach and watch them move up and down as you breathe. Now, try standing in front of a mirror and watch your belly rise and fall while you speak or sing. This means you’re breathing properly and relieves pressure on your vocal cords and larynx.

Speak slowly and calmly. Puberty boys and singers often break their voices if they are too emotional or in a hurry to pronounce. To keep your voice clear and reduce the risk of your voice cracking, you need to slow down, take deep breaths, and try to speak calmly. Do not rush.

  • Don’t hesitate to speak and try to keep your tone as even as possible. Pay attention to the content and words you are about to say and move on. Think of this mission as walking through the mud: keep moving forward.
  • Make sure not to stretch the vowels when singing. Words like “light” have diphthongs, i.e. there are two vowels in a word (lah-eet). To reduce the risk of voice cracking, emphasize the first vowel more than the second. Quickly release the second vowel at the end of the word and take care to keep the full note value of the word.
Speak and sing in your normal voice. Don’t try to sound lower or higher if you feel your accent is changing, although this will be more difficult during puberty. Pronouncing in your normal range is the best way to avoid breaking your voice.

  • If you’re a singer, you’ll usually want to expand your vocal range. You can do this while rehearsing and practicing your vocals instead of trying to sing while performing. If you’re not confident you can hit a certain note, practice expanding your range, don’t try to reach it for the first time in front of the orchestra.
  • Don’t despair if your voice breaks from time to time. This condition is common in many people during puberty and is just a sign that your body is changing and you are about to enter adulthood.
Loosen up . Your voice naturally gets higher when you’re stressed. If you’re speaking in front of a crowd, relax and take a few deep breaths. Try not to get nervous, because then the air will move unevenly through the larynx, causing the pitch to fluctuate. Keep calm.

  • If you are giving a speech or performing in public, give your voice a full rest before the event. Try not to speak loudly or raise your voice.

  • Activate your voice before you speak. If you often break your voice while performing, remember to warm up your voice with lip-vibration exercises before you practice expanding your range. [9] X Research Source

    • Slowly sing the high and low notes of the scale as much as you can while vibrating your lips. Practice this exercise every day to expand your vocal range and make your voice stronger, bolder where you might break your voice. [10] X Research Source
  • Advice

    • If your voice breaks, laugh it off and let it go. It was just an unfortunate incident.
    • Girls can also experience voice cracking during puberty.
    • The more you know about pronunciation and singing techniques, the more likely you are to avoid vocal breakdowns. A vocal technique book or vocal coach can teach you how to use new techniques properly. However, sometimes you just need to be patient and wait for your voice to settle down first.
    • When drinking water, swallow slowly, as your throat can be strained when you swallow quickly, and you’re more likely to crack your voice.
