How to Apply Smokey Eye Makeup

Use highlight colors. Highlight color is the lightest of the three eyeshadow colors you have chosen. Using your eyeshadow brush, apply to the inner upper corner of the eyelid, both upper and lower lashes. It is best to apply directly under the eyebrows, from the beginning to the end of the eyebrow.<

Use medium colors. Use a medium shade of eyeshadow on the entire eyelid. The color should be blended so that the color looks harmonious in the inner corners with the highlight color to create a natural gradation. Unlike the highlight color, you should only use this color for the upper eyelid, not all the highlights below the eyebrow.

Start with the darkest color. Start at the outer corner of your eye, and blend over your lids, behind and around your inner lash line in a C shape from about half way in (from the outside of your face). .

• The darkest part is always the rim just above the eyelid. Whenever you need a darker eyeshadow, start at this point and blend upwards or downwards.

• To enhance your classic smoky eyes, sweep your dark eyeshadow in one spot (in a “<” line instead of a “C”) all the way to the bottom of your brow. Make sure that the darkest spots are still on the outer corners of the eyelids.
• Apply a little dark color on the lower lash line. Again, start at the outer corner and extend about halfway inward. This will help balance out the dark color at the top of your eyes.

Mix eyeshadow colors. Clean your eyeshadow brush with makeup brush cleaner or facial soap/shampoo and water. Dry the brush with a clean towel or cloth by quickly sweeping the brush back and forth over the cloth. Then use a clean brush to blend the colors together.

• Start by mixing the lightest colors. Make sure your medium shade (for the lids) is not too different from the darkest shade of the eyeshadow. Gently move your brush in a “C” shape at the intersection of these two colors to make them look natural and soft.
• Apply black on the lash line extending to the brow bone. You should brush lightly and fade evenly, and should not overlap a lot of highlight color in the lower part of the eyebrow.

Eyeliner. If you prefer a sharp cat eye, line your eyeliner from the inner corner of your lash line to the end of your brow. Finish with a gentle upward stroke just in front of your eyeshadow rim (the boundary between your darkest eyeshadow and your unbleached skin). For a bolder smoky eye, draw a thick line over your lash line, and then use your fingers or a small eyeshadow brush to blur the junction between the two lines.

• To make your smoky eye look more dramatic, draw a line close to the base of your lash line. Use eyeliner to draw a line just below the base of the upper lash line and just above the lower lash line. This can be a little difficult for some people, as it requires you to draw your eyeliner close to the eyeball.
• Line the lower lash line near the lacrimal gland with a white eyeliner pencil. This will make your eyes pop, making them look shimmery even with all the dark tones above.

Broaching MI. Carefully use mascara to brush your eyelashes, zigzag to help fix the shape of the eyelashes, making them more curled. Do not apply more than 2 coats to avoid clumping and unnaturalness. Only apply 1 time for the lower lashes to avoid blurring the panda eyes.

Erase the excess color. If any eyeshadow or mascara falls on your cheekbones below your eyes, use a large makeup brush to brush it away quickly. If mascara is smudged, use a cotton swab dipped in makeup remover to remove it, and then use a makeup brush to fix the removed makeup. ^[1]

Use highlighter. Use the same technique as for the classic smoky eyeshadow with the lightest eyeshadow shade for the inner corner of your eye and just below your brows, above your eyelids. Apply highlighter below towards the inner corner of the eye.

Apply the darkest eyeshadow along the lash line. Instead of starting with a medium color, take the darkest eyeshadow and use a brush to brush along the upper lash line. It is recommended to apply the darkest color close to the lash line and then gradually blend the light color on the upper eyelid.

• Use a little on the lower lash line, but only near the outer edge. Sweep the brush towards the dark part of the eye, you should only apply about halfway on your lower lid.
• Use only the darkest color for half of your lash line. Do not apply the entire eyelid because this part will be reserved for medium-colored eyeshadow.

Apply medium tone eyeshadow. Take your medium eyeshadow and, starting halfway up your eyelid, bring the brush towards your eyelid crease. You should apply this color on the eyelid next to the darkest area.

• You can mix this color to apply on the area above the lash line and into the highlighter if you want. The goal is to let your eye color fade from the lids to the eyebrows.
• Use a little dark color for your lower lashes. You should hit the rest of the lower lashes.

Mix colors. Clean your eyeshadow brushes by washing with facial soap, shampoo and water, or by washing with an antibacterial cleanser specifically designed for makeup brushes. Dry the brush thoroughly on a cloth or towel before using it to darken. Then, apply gentle, broad strokes over the eyelids where the different shades of shades meet.

• Blend the color based on the line in the direction of your lash line (horizontally), but blend the color so that the eye color changes in an upward direction.
• Make sure the lashes are the darkest part of the lids, and if needed, you can add a little bit of the darkest shade directly onto the lashes.
• Don’t forget to create gradations to the outside and corners of the eyes, so the eyeshadow will gently fade and match your natural skin tone. Do the same with the color under the eyes.

Use eyeliner. To have a dramatic smoky eye, it is best to use thick and bold eyeliner. Use an eyeliner with a big, strong tip to draw a thick line on your lash line. Then, use a makeup brush or fingers to blend the upper lash line.

• Draw close to the lash line on the inner edge of the eyes to add darkness. Draw a line into the rim of the eyelid where it is closest to the eyeball, just below the base of your upper eyelid.
• If you use eyeliner only for the lower lash line, you should only bold the color of the lower eyelashes. Smooth a thin line at the end of the line and match it with the pastel color to avoid looking too harsh and the eye colors separated.

Broaching MI. Apply your mascara carefully to avoid any mistakes on your lashes. Brush your top lashes first, and quickly brush down your bottom lashes. Brush zigzag to shape the lashes and help the lashes not stick together. Avoid using more than two coats of mascara as this will cause clumping in the eyelashes.
