How good is Shaqir O’Neal?
High school
After beginning his high school career at Crossroads High School in Santa Monica, Calif., O’Neal moved to the Atlanta area as a sophomore, playing the final three years of his high school career at Union Grove in McDonough, Ga.

A report from September 2020 indicated that Georgia Tech, LSU, Northeastern and San Diego State were among the schools that expressed interest in O’Neal.

College
In addition to his goal of changing the conversation around players playing at HBCUs, there is an element of familiarity that helped O’Neal land at Texas Southern.
Head coach Johnny Jones, who took over at Texas Southern in 2018, is an LSU alumnus and was an assistant coach during Shaquille O’Neal’s time at the school. That familiarity and comfort had a hand in Shaqir O’Neal’s decision.
O’Neal enrolled at Texas Southern in 2021 but redshirted during his freshman year. He made his college debut on Nov. 7, 2022, earning seven minutes of playing time in a road loss at the University of San Francisco.
On Dec. 11, 2022, O’Neal turned in the best performance of his college career to date, finishing with 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting to go along with seven rebounds and four assists in 28 minutes of action against North American University of the NAIA.
O’Neal played sparingly in his first season of college basketball, but Texas Southern’s roster features several upperclassmen who play heavy minutes. O’Neal appeared in 20 of the Tigers’ first 34 games, logging just over seven minutes per contest.
How tall is Shaqir O’Neal?
Shaqir O’Neal is 6-7. He may not quite measure up to his father’s 7-foot-1 frame, but based on his 247Sports recruiting profile, Shaqir O’Neal has grown at least two inches since enrolling at Texas Southern.
At his height, O’Neal is listed as a forward but has also shown the capability of playing the shooting guard position due to his shooting and athleticism.
