It’s not your average mini golf experience. This competition is extreme, with competitors moving through insane obstacles while playing the nostalgic golf game.
“It was truly a one-of-a kind experience, because playing mini golf my entire life, I’ve never seen anything like this before where they merged mini golf with a ninja warrior type of show,” said Eric Chiang, a contestant on “Holey Moley.”
It was the perfect challenge for Eric Chiang, an economics professor at Florida Atlantic University.
When he is not in the classroom, he is competing in mini golf competitions, including the sport’s version of the U.S. Open and the Masters. So, when he heard about ABC’s new hit show “Holey Moley,” he knew he had to audition.
“I was at a tournament last year and they had a representative from the show calling for auditions and we had to submit a video audition, and I thought, ‘That is something I have got to do,’ ” said Chiang.
Plus, he got to play alongside Steph Curry, who is the show’s producer and resident pro.
“He is fantastic, very nice guy. It was fun being on it with him. He is good at everything, best basketball player. He could be the best golfer. He comes to a mini golf course and he did really great there, so it was great to see him,” said Chiang.
Chiang can’t give away how the filming went, but he showed us some of his moves and gave a few tips for those who aren’t as gifted in the game.
“I would try to find a way that I could get a hole-in-one, which means hitting it across the bridge, hitting the right brick and having that roll as close to the hole as possible and letting it roll in,” said Chiang.
If those lessons pay off, Chiang could win $25,000, which he said he plans on donating to FAU for a scholarship fund.
