Hey Friends,
In 2009, five college roommates at Texas A&M decided to place a friendly bet.
They set up a basketball hoop in their backyard and attempted to one-up each other with trick shots they filmed. They posted the video on YouTube later that night, and within a week, it had more than 200,000 views—or 44 million today.
Those five roommates soon became known as “Dude Perfect,” and they now run one of the world’s most popular YouTube channels with nearly 60 million subscribers.

Dude Perfect has over 106 million followers on social media and nearly 15 billion views on YouTube to date. But more importantly, they have spent the last decade-plus turning this into a legitimate business.
The group of five college roommates reportedly bring in between $20 million to $25 million per year from YouTube and sponsorship deals. They have worked with blue-chip companies like Amazon, ESPN, Nike, EA Sports, and even the U.S. Olympic Team and filmed videos at iconic locations like Augusta National.
But now, they have their sights on an even bigger goal — expansion.
Dude Perfect announced earlier this week that they are building a $100 million headquarters and entertainment center — essentially their own Disney World.
The three-story facility will include mini-golf, restaurants, a Dude Perfect museum, a merch store, two acres of outdoor space, and a 330-foot “trick-shot tower.”
There isn’t an ETA of when the facility might open, and they haven’t even picked a location yet. Because while the group would like to stay in Frisco, Texas, or at least North Texas, they are pitching the project to several different cities, including Los Angeles and Atlanta, according to Sports Business Journal.
But here are a few artist renderings of the proposed Dude Perfect HQ, courtesy of architecture firm (and their partner on the project) Overland Partners:
So why does Dude Perfect need a $100 million facility for trick-shot videos? Well, they want their headquarters to be much more than that. Their press release makes it clear that they want the building to be an entertainment destination where families worldwide can travel, explore, record content, and, of course, spend money.
This is something that would undoubtedly grow their brand. In-person interaction is critical, and it creates a nice fly-wheel where your fans are organically helping grow your channels through the content they produce. For example, it’s the same reason why Dude Perfect went on a live tour this summer, with 24 shows in 24 different cities, including notable venues like the United Center (Chicago: 23,500 seats) and MGM Grand Garden Arena (Las Vegas: 16,800 seats) — it just plain works.
Combine this with the fact that Dude Perfect also signed a deal with Amazon Prime to broadcast an alternate stream of Thursday Night Football—it’s designed for family viewing with trick shots, stunts, and special guests throughout the game—and it’s clear that the group of five college roommates is building something special.
This is an ambitious plan, and I’m not sure we have seen a similar trajectory (YouTube —> Disney World). But times have changed, and those that understand the internet and social distribution have an unfair advantage.
I hope everyone has a great day. We’ll talk tomorrow.
