Sasuke Uchiha is one of the most important characters in the whole Naruto franchise. The antihero of the series, Sasuke has been it all – the villain, the hero, and, finally, an antihero that beautifully complements Naruto’s heroic ideals. On top of that, Sasuke is also one of the strongest characters in the whole series. A lot of his powers and abilities stem from the fact that he could use the Rinnegan, but he lost it in Boruto after being stabbed by Momoshiki, who was possessing Boruto at the time. Sasuke is significantly weaker without his primary technique, and in this article, we are going to tell you whether Sasuke got his Rinnegab back in Boruto.
As of the time of writing, Sasuke Uchiha has not gotten his Rinnegan back in Boruto. Sasuke Uchiha lost his Rinnegan to Boruto, who was actually possessed by Momoshiki Ōtsutsuki at the time, who stabbed him directly in the eye, thereby destroying the Rinnegan and taking its powers away from Sasuke. How did Sasuke lose his Rinnegan?
After he had recovered, Sasuke discovered that the surviving members of Team 7 and Boruto and Kawaki had gone to the parallel universe to save Naruto using their Kama. Amado, the director of Kara’s research and development section, traveled to Konoha shortly after that and arranged for Kara to be exiled. Sasuke, Naruto, and Shikamaru were present during Amado’s interrogation when he discovered that the scientist had given Konoha the coordinates for Kara’s dimension. During the interrogation, Amado played a live recording of the argument between Koji Kashin and Jigen.
Amado kept revealing details about the Ōtsutsuki and Kâma while they watched the fight. When Jigen’s death caused Isshiki to resurrect in his body, Amado stated that it also deleted Kawaki’s Kama to avoid duplicates, which made Sasuke realize that Isshiki was susceptible to permadeath without Kama remaining. Amado informed them that Isshiki’s resurrection was unstable and that he would seek out Kawaki once more to mark him once more after becoming a legal resident of Konoha.
Sasuke made it apparent to Boruto that battling such an adversary would probably result in death, but Boruto insisted on fighting with his father and mentor. They were informed of Isshiki’s entry into the village before they had a chance to resolve their argument. Before entering battle, Naruto gave Boruto the command to join the evacuation while Sasuke remained behind to speak with his pupil. He reveals to him that due to Kama, he was aware that Boruto was affected by Momoshiki.
Boruto acknowledged that if Momoshiki seized possession of his body, he was more terrified of injuring people than of dying, but Sasuke pledged to him that as a teacher, he would stop him by any means necessary. Once more, Sasuke gave Boruto his genin forehead protection and forced him to make a final oath to return it to him. Sasuke arrived on the battlefield and shielded Naruto from Isshiki’s attack before he started hurling random shuriken at Isshiki, which all but eliminated him. It was actually a shape-shifting Boruto who used his Kama and transferred Isshiki and himself to another dimension, so Sasuke was mistaken when he threw his sword at Isshiki.
Soon after, Sasuke and Naruto joined Boruto to support him with Space-Time Ninjutsu. The Konoha nin grabbed hold of Boruto as he faced Isshiki, visibly in awe of how far his Kama had come in such a short period of time. Sasuke unexpectedly switched places with Boruto to launch a surprise attack, but Isshiki handled him easily. The battle continued, and thanks to their effective collaboration, Naruto and Sasuke were able to put Isshiki on the defensive as he started to parry all of their blows. Isshiki used a novel way to create and control enormous black cubes that divided the pair.
Isshiki then cornered Sasuke and prepared to murder him with his own sword, but Boruto rushed in front of the assault to save Isshiki. Boruto realized that Isshiki needed him alive for his goal when Isshiki stopped his onslaught. In the anime, Isshiki threw his black staves at Boruto while he was aiding Sasuke in his recovery. This caused Sasuke to switch places and sustain grievous injuries. Isshiki tried to use his cubes to crush Sasuke, but he stopped when Boruto couldn’t use his Compression Rasengan to protect him.
Sasuke observed as Naruto put pressure on Isshiki after reuniting with the Hokage, who released his ultimate power with Kurama. Naruto’s chakra was beginning to wane as he drew Boruto away from the fighting. Due to his wounds, Boruto faints. To Sasuke’s dismay, Isshiki used Naruto’s connection to Kawaki via the latter’s prosthetic limb to transfer his host to them. Sasuke attempted to divert attention with his Amenotejikara and a technologically advanced smokescreen as Kawaki attempted to avoid Isshiki’s marking, but he was thwarted by the foe.
Sasuke questioned Naruto about the dangers of his new power when Kawaki deceived Isshiki with a clone, culminating in the death of the Ōtsutsuki. Boruto quickly flew in the direction of Sasuke, stabbing him in the left eye and breaking his Rinnegan before Naruto could explain himself. The Ōtsutsuki, who was under the control of Momoshiki, was delighted that Isshiki had been vanquished and that the remaining fighters were the only ones who could stop him from achieving his goal.
Sasuke helped Kawaki battle Momoshiki when Momoshiki revealed that he intended to feed Kawaki to Isshiki’s Jbi because the host’s body still had a significant amount of Ōtsutsuki DNA. Naruto loses consciousness throughout the battle because of his previously unreachable power. As he had pledged to his pupil, Sasuke decided to kill Boruto if necessary. Assuming that Momoshiki had emerged after Boruto passed out due to chakra exhaustion, he reasoned that restoring the boy’s chakra might enable his personality to reappear. He observed that Momoshiki avoided absorbing any chakra-based ninjutsu with Kama. Sasuke was struck by Momoshiki’s Vanishing Rasengan as he was strategizing with Kawaki.
Following Kawaki’s insistence that Momoshiki learns a technique for self-sacrifice, Boruto was able to awaken and elude Momoshiki’s control. After this brutal battle, Sasuke, Boruto, and Kawaki discovered that Naruto’s safety depended on Kurama sacrificing his life energy. Boruto was the group’s only chance to leave the alien dimension because Sasuke’s Rinnegan was shattered, and Kawaki’s Kama was lost. Boruto was able to open a portal with Kawaki’s assistance, and Sasuke guided a weak Naruto through it. Sasuke and his allies were happy to make it home safely after their battle.
Does Sasuke get the Rinnegan back?
The Rinnegan has been a trademark technique of Sasuke Uchiha and his whole clan. It was difficult to imagine the most famous and exceptionally powerful member of the Uchiha clan without his trademark technique. But it happened. We have told you how it happened in the previous section. From that moment on, Sasuke Uchiha became a significantly weaker shinobi because the Rinnegan was a truly powerful technique that gave Sasuke an enormous power boost. So, this turn of events raises the question of whether Sasuke Uchiha eventually got his Rinnegan back.
Namely, such a trademark movie and technique is something that such characters rarely lose. At least permanently. It does happen from time to time, but these characters most often simply get them back eventually. A notable example is Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach, who lost his powers twice, ended up regaining them, and gained – each time – a more powerful version of his old(er) powers. This is why, from a general point of view, Sasuke’s loss doesn’t seem like something permanent, but this might not be the case here.
Boruto has taken some dark turns over the years. Kurama is dead, Sasuke lost his Rinnegan, and if the first scene of the series is to be trusted, the age of shinobi is over. All of this might just be a tease of sorts to keep us watching, but it also might be true. As of the time of writing, Sasuke Uchiha has not regained his Rinnegan, and knowing how specific the Rinnegan is, he might never get it back. It is not impossible to gain it again, the methods are known, but it doesn’t seem like Boruto will go down that path, as it doesn’t seem that the conditions will be met sometime in the future.
Of course, Kishimoto might surprise us in the end, and it remains to be seen how Sasuke’s story is going to play out, but as of the time of writing, Sasuke has not regained his Rinnegan, and there is nothing to point out that he is going to regain it in the future. We will just have to wait and see what happens in the future.
