Dodi Fayed was best known for his flamboyant lifestyle, having a father who owns London’s famous Harrods department store. He worked on such films as 1981’s Chariots of Fire and 1986’s F/X as a producer. During the 1990s, Fayed was romantically linked with Princess Diana of Wales. On August 31, 1997, the couple died in a car accident in a Paris tunnel while being chased by paparazzi.

Early Life

Fayed was born Imad El-Din Mohamed Abdel Moneim Fayed on April 15, 1955, in Alexandria, Egypt. Fayed was the son of Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Al Fayed and Samira Khashoggi, sister of weapons dealer Adnan Khashoggi. Fayed was a graduate of Sandhurst Military Academy and attended Collge Saint Marc in Egypt and the Institut Le Rosey in Switzerland.

Career in Film

Fayed’s father owns London’s famous Harrods department store, as well as Fulham Football Club and the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Paris. Fayed was best known for his flamboyant lifestyle, but made his way to a career in film, working as a producer for 1980’s Breaking Glass, 1981’s Chariots of Fire, and 1986’s F/X, along with its sequel and television series. He also served as executive producer for 1991’s fantasy film Hook, with Robin Williams, and 1995’s film adaptation of The Scarlet Letter. He founded his own production company, Allied Stars Inc.
