Destiny 2: How To Equip The Hammer Of Proving

You’re probably not going to like how obvious this is.

Destiny 2’s new season has begun and already it has people confused on how certain systems work. One of the first things you’ll be doing in the new season is related to acquiring Cabal gold for the quest Hammer of Proving, and some players might be asking themselves; How do I get gold? It says I need to have the hammer equipped to get gold. How do I equip it? Where do I equip it?

The simplest answer is that the hammer is already equipped once it is in your quest list, just like the Cryptolith Lure. You might be wondering why you aren’t receiving gold as you grind battlegrounds and the reason is that these activities won’t get you gold.

Instead what you need to do is to grind public events and playlist items to get gold. You need to right click on the hammer to bring up its menu and slot the medallion you received. You need 14 gold to slot the medallion, not the 42 gold shown on the quest screen. Once you’ve slotted the medallion then you should do a battleground playlist strike and at the very end of the strike you will see an extra chest that can be opened.

Smashing the chest gets you a hammer charge that can be used to focus your Umbral Engram.

Protip: You need to use the Vanguard playlist in order for the chests to appear at the end of the battlegrounds. Entering the battleground from the map on either planet will not get you the chest at the end of the strike.

TL;DR: You don’t have to do anything special to equip a hammer. Just start doing playlist activities to generate gold. The explanation is a little convoluted since once you can see the requirement to equip the hammer, you’ve already got it and thus it is already equipped.
