The original Crocodile Dundee film was released back in 1986. It featured Paul Hogan as the main character Mick Dundee alongside his real-life future wife Linda Kozlowski as reporter Sue Charlton.
In total, there were three Crocodile Dundee films released:
- 1986 – Crocodile Dundee
- 1988 – Crocodile Dundee II
- 2001 – Crocodile Dundee in Los Vegas
Each film follows the adventures of Mick Dundee who was born in a cave and raised by Indigenous Australians. Mick is a crocodile hunter, and that’s how he gained his nickname of Crocodile Dundee.
Crocodile Dundee (1986)
The very first film was released on 30th April 1986 and is set in both New York City and the Australian outback. The film was created on a budget of less than $10 million but it still managed to become a worldwide hit.
Plot
The film follows reporter Sue Charlton and her quest to find out more about a bushman who reportedly lost half his leg to a crocodile and managed to crawl hundreds of miles to safety. Charlton travels to a small town in the Northern Territory of Australia called Walkabout Creek. It’s here that she meets Michael J. Dundee (affectionately known as Crocodile Dundee). When she finally meets him, she discovers that he actually hasn’t lost half his leg, but he does have a large scar from a crocodile bite which he calls a “love bite”.
Initially, Sue Charlton is less than impressed with Mick Dundee. She finds him vulgar and doesn’t appreciate his clumsy advances. In fact, she becomes so frustrated with him referring to her as a “sheila” that she heads out into the outback alone. Unbeknownst to her, Mick follows her to make sure she’s ok. He sees her attacked by a crocodile and comes to her rescue. It’s at this point that she realises she is beginning to have feelings for Crocodile Dundee. Eventually, she manages to persuade him to return with her to New York City.
There are some comedy moments as Mick tries to understand the way the city works and how people behave.
Confused by Mick’s behaviour, and unsure how he feels, Sue agrees to marry somebody else. This sends Mick off on his own. Once he’s gone, Sue realises that she’s in love with him and heads off to try to find him. She reaches him in a subway but can’t get to him through the crowds. She enlists members of the crowd to relay a message to him. Mick climbs up to the rafters and gets to Sue by walking on the heads and hands of the people in the subway. When he reaches her, they kiss and receive a round of applause from everyone on the platform.

Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles (2001)
The third and final film in the Crocodile Dundee series was released in 2001. Rather than New York, this film was set in Los Angeles as well as Queensland, Australia. The film didn’t do too well at the box office and received lots of negative reviews with many branding it an unnecessary sequel.
Plot
Mick and Sue live together in the Australian Outback with their son Mikey. Sadly for Mick, crocodile hunting has been made illegal, so he earns his money by wrestling crocodiles for tourists.
Sue is offered a job as chief at a Los Angeles newspaper and the family make the move to the USA.
The storyline to this film seems to meander off a little bit but generally follows Mick and Mikey trying to adjust to the American way of life.
