Elephant Ears Recipe

If you love fried treats, this recipe is a must try. You don’t have to wait until the next carnival or food truck is in the area to enjoy Elephant ears. This recipe is so quick and simple to make at home!

We love funnel cakes and have an easy recipe for that too. Can you tell we love all the carnival type treats in our house?

These delicious elephant ears are fried to perfection and topped with lots of decadent cinnamon and sugar for the best dessert!

One bite and you will be hooked. Plus, they are just so easy to make at home.

What is the difference between a funnel cake and an elephant ear?

  Elephant Ears

They taste similar but look a little different. Funnel cakes are fried dough that is more like a fritter in a zig zag pattern. They can be quite messy but oh so yummy.

Elephant Ears are flat and much easier to eat. They are often topped with cinnamon and sugar.

As you can see, both sound equally delicious but they are shaped very differently.

Ingredients:

  • Flour
  • Salt
  • Baking Powder
  • milk
  • Oil
  • Sugar
  • Cinnamon

How to make elephant ears:

First, get out a medium size mixing bowl. Add the flour, salt and baking soda.

Second, slowly stir in the milk until a dough forms.

Gradually add in the milk until the dough is formed. It is important to do this gradually because you may not need all of the milk.

Once everything is combined, let the dough sit for 5 minutes.

After the 5 minutes, roll the dough out slightly and cut it into 6 pieces. Next, take each of those pieces and roll into balls of dough.

Then flatten into ½ inch thick circles.

Now, add 3 inch of oil to 375 degrees in a deep pot over medium heat. Place the dough circles in the oil and fry until the puff pastry is golden brown. It will poof up slightly and then you flip the dough.

Fry the other side until the puffy pastry is puffed and golden. They should be golden brown.

Line a plate with paper towels and put the fried dough on it to drain any excess grease.

Finally, mix together the cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl.

Lay the elephant ears out on a baking sheet. Then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar while still warm. warm.

  • Set the fried dough on a plate lined with paper towels.
  • Stir together the cinnamon and sugar together in a small bowl. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture onto the dough while still warm.
