Especially when it comes to more specific projects, that require a transparent or clear drying glue. In this article, I will go over the best clear drying glues out there, how to choose the right one for your project, and how to use them properly.
The best clear drying glues are Loctite Glass Glue for glass and ceramic, PVA Glue for wood and paper, E6000 as an all-purpose glue, and if a very strong glue is needed that also drys transparent then gorilla two-part epoxy is the best choice out there.

The Strongest Clear Glues
There are tons of insanely strong glues out there to choose from but when it comes to clear-drying strong glues then the list gets really small really fast. But don´t worry, there are quite a few strong glues out there, that dry clear. You just have to know where to find them and what to search for. And lucky for you I am here to tell you everything that you need to know in order to find the perfect clear drying glue for your project.
The strongest clear glue is a transparent two-part epoxy. Epoxy will stick to almost anything, it will create a very strong bond but it will not dry hard. The two best clear epoxies are Gorilla 2-Part Epoxy and J-B Clear Weld Quick-Setting Epoxy. Both are easy to use and easy to apply because of their clever packaging.
So when it comes to strong glues then nothing is stronger than a two-part epoxy. Well, almost nothing.
Luckily for us, you can buy transparent two-part epoxies.
The two that I personally tested and that I had the best results with, where Gorilla 2-Part Epoxy (Check the Price here) and J-B Clear Weld Quick-Setting Epoxy (Check the Price here).
Both of these epoxy glues are easy to use and easy to apply because they both feature a syringe-style packaging that will mix both parts of the epoxy as you apply it. So you can´t do anything wrong.
Epoxy always has to be mixed before you apply it. One part of the mixture is the epoxy resin and the other part of the mixture is a chemical compound that hardens the epoxy.
The two parts normally have to be mixed in a one to one ratio but depending on the type and brand of epoxy the mixing ratio can vary slightly which can be confusing for beginners.
That´s why I recommend using either the epoxy from gorilla glue or the epoxy from J-B. They both get mixed in the right ratio automatically as you apply it, which is awesome.
You can glue almost anything with epoxy aside from some industrial plastics.
So Epoxy is the best choice if you are looking for an all-purpose clear glue for your project that has to be insanely strong.
Clear Glue for Glass
One of the most popular reasons that most people are looking for clear glue is because they want to glue glass. Luckily the industry knows that which is the reason why there are a couple of good products for glueing glass out there.
The best clear glue for glass is Loctite Glass Glue. It is easy to apply and to use. It dries quickly, which makes it perfect for gluing glass back together and it creates a long-lasting waterproof bond. The glue is also highly transparent, which means that you won´t see any glue residue after it has dried.
You can get Loctite Glass Glue in some crafts and hardware stores or right here on Amazon.
Loctite is my number one choice when it comes to gluing glass. Mainly because of its ease of use.
You simply apply the glue to one side of the glass, then you press the two glass pieces together, hold it for a few seconds, and you are done. It´s that simple.
The Loctite Glass Glue is also very strong when using it on glass and it also bonds almost all kinds of ceramics.
It drys clear to the point, where you can’t even see the glue anymore after it has dried.
So you won´t see any signs of the glue on the project afterward. Wich is awesome and opens up so many possibilities for crafters.
There are some other glass clues out there but amongst all the ones I tried Loctite was simply the best in terms of usage and strength.
If you don´t want to use Loctite Glass Glue However, then I would suggest using the E6000 Industrial Glue. You can find it here on Amazon.
E6000 is also very strong and it also drys transparent but it tends to be a little bit more expensive than Loctite Glass Glue. That being said it can also be used on a wider range of materials including fabrics, metal, wood, and more.
SO if you are searching for an all-purpose glue that also glues glass, this is your best bet.
Clear Glue for Plastic
Don´t make the mistake of thinking, that glass glues can also glue plastic. Plastic is actually a little bit more complicated to glue properly. Depending on what kind of plastic you are working with the adhesive you will need to glue it properly can vary greatly. I have a nifty chart where you can see how to identify the type of plastic, that you are working with, and what kind of glue works best for that plastic-type.
The best clear glue for plastic is gorilla super glue gel. It will adhere to almost all types of plastics and it drys very quickly (within 45 seconds). It is easy to use and to apply while creating a very strong and permanent bond. It can be applied quite precisely too because it is a gel and therefore it doesn´t run.
As I mentioned above, when it comes to glueing plastic there just isn´t a glue out there, that glues them all (except maybe if you are using a two-part epoxy).
So it is important to identify the type of plastic, that you want to glue. This will help you to find the perfect glue for your specific plastic-type. You can learn more about identifying the type of plastic and how to glue it right here.
All that being said, there are a few types of glue, that you can use on almost every type of plastic. One being the Gorilla Super Glue Gel.
You can find Gorilla Super Glue Gel right here on Amazon.
A possible alternative for that glue would be using a two-part epoxy resin to glue plastic. Epoxy will stick to almost every kind of surface, including plastic, and it will create a very strong bond.
There are two clear-drying epoxies, that I can recommend. One is the two-part epoxy from Gorilla and the other is from J-B.
Both of these epoxies are easy to use and to apply while creating a very strong, longlasting bond that will even survive water and intense temperatures.
Does Gorilla Glue Dry Clear?
Gorilla glue has a wide variety of different products from industrial grade glues all the way to regular wood glue. They are known for their excellent products around the world. But not all of their glues dry clear.
Gorilla glue doesn´t always dry clear. There are a lot of different kinds of glues that Gorilla has amongst their products but not all of them dry clear. The following glues from Gorilla dry clear: Gorilla Clear Glue, Gorilla Wood Glue, Gorilla Two-Part epoxy, and Gorilla Super Glue amongst others.
The list above is by no means complete but it lists the most widely used Gorilla Glues that are transparent.
Regular Gorilla glue is not completely clear! While it is slightly transparent it will not actually dry fully clear.
The strongest clear glue from Gorilla is probably the two-part Epoxy from gorilla glue.
You can find a complete list of their products on their official homepage right here.
Does Craft Glue Dry Clear?
Craft glue does not always dry clear. Most craft glues are based on a variant of PVA glue (also called white glue). Which means, that they are initially white but they will dry clear. Mod Podge, for example, is a white PVA-based glue that displays that exact behavior. But not every craft glue will dry clear.
If you are searching for a clear drying craft glue then I would highly recommend using Mod Podge or you can mix your own crafts glue by diluting PVA glue with a little bit of water.
So when the crafts glue is based on PVA glue then it will dry clear but if it is based on something else then I would recommend either testing the glue on a scrap piece of wood or you can read the package for more information.
