A Brother’s Keeper
Welcome to the A Brother’s Keeper page of the official IGN Wiki Guide and Walkthrough for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. Here, we’ll break down everything you need to now about A Brother’s Keeper, including how to beat Sigurd, how to beat Basim, and how to navigate your way through the game’s finale.
This quest begins right where Where Legends Are Born finishes. You can’t view your world map during it at the start so get off the longship and follow Sigurd.
When Sigurd asks you to clear some fragile ice, just wack it with whatever weapon you have. Follow Sigurd further and you’ll reach the door pictured below:
A quick cutscene will play and then you’ll be on an elevator. Wait for it to get all the way down.
Follow Sigurd forward and another cutscene will begin at a sphere of metal. After this, Eivor will wake up in a strange place. Walk forward until you reach Sigurd and Svala and another cutscene will begin.
Turns out you’re in the great hall of the slain. Time for a battle. Well….it’s not really a battle because every move you have kills instantly so just run around and kill everyone in sight.
When you’re tired of doing that, go and talk to Sigurd who is on a rock down here.
Sigurd Boss Fight
- Sigurd can’t hurt you so there’s really nothing to this boss fight.
- Just wack him a couple times with whatever weapon you’d like.
- Seriously, he can’t hurt you. Let him try — he’ll hit you and knock you down, but it won’t do any damage.
- A cutscene will begin after this fight.
The day will restart after this cutscene and you’ll have to do the same thing — leave your room, walk out to the great hall of the slain, speak to Sigurd, fight again on the battlefield, talk to Sigurd for a cutscene…and repeat. This time, a cutscene will begin when you exit the hallway.
Walk forward when in control of Eivor again and use Odin’s Sight to locate who Eivor thinks might be here father, Varin. When you get close, another call for battle will begin. Head out and kill some people if you want or, just talk to Sigurd to trigger another cutscene.
When back in control of Sigurd, run forward to Svala and a cutscene will begin. After this, run back out to the field, kill some people, and talk to Sigurd. This time, you’ll wake up somewhere new.
Follow Odin forward and he’ll basically recap what you’ve done as Eivor so far. When prompted, speak to him by pressing Triangle/Y. Then, a cutscene will begin.
Odin Boss Fight
- Odin can hurt you, but you’ll never actually die. Even if your health is completely depleted, you’ll just get a new full health bar.
- This is a weird boss fight because it’s not actually a fight. Sure, you can attack Odin and parry his attacks, but the key to advancing is to unequip your axe as he has control over it.
- Unequip your axe and then run to the large door in the perimeter to escape the fight. A cutscene will begin when you reach the door.
Following this cutscene, you’ll be back in the room where you were before going into Sigurd’s vision/simulation. You’ll find that Basim has Sigurd by the neck.
Basim Boss Fight
This is an odd boss fight because it basically isn’t one. Basim can hurt and kill you, but he doesn’t have a health bar and most of the fighting serves to give you something to do while Basim and Eivor fight.
- He has one orange move and it’s basically a sprint attack. He runs at you and slashes — just dodge because parrying doesn’t do anything. Regardless of if you parry or dodge, Basim will run right by you.
- Keep your eyes up on the second level of stones as he’ll often be up here. You can shoot him with arrows if you’d like, but be prepared to dodge as he’ll come slamming down soon with a red rune attack.
- If you hit him enough, he’ll drop a smoke bomb and attempt to attack you from the smoke. Just dodge clear of the smoke.
- Make sure to attack and hit Basim as much as possible between his moves.
- Eventually, after fighting him for about 5 minutes, a mini-cutscene will play where Basim says a wolf stole his kill (in reference to when Eivor was bitten by a wolf as a child).
The fight will begin again after this: continue to parry his attacks while attacking him yourself and eventually, you’ll be given the option use a stun attack. Do that and Basim will run away, saying it’s time to drag Sigurd into play.
Chase after Basim, climbing up the stone pillars and such that he climbs up. Just follow him on the path forward, sliding under openings you can’t jump over, and jumping over gaps and onto beams as necessary.
Eventually, you’ll slide down into the main circle of this area and you’ll have to fight Basim again.
Shoot his left arm to stun him. Then, use a stun attack on his by pressing R3/RS near him and a cutscene will begin. When in control of Eivor again, walk over to Sigurd and sit next to him. Another cutscene will begin.
Sigurd Strike Decisions
You will not receive the true ending if you made three or more of the strikes listed below. If you followed this walkthrough, you will have zero strikes.
- If Eivor steals Styrbjorn’s wealth to take with her to England.
- If Eivor begins a relationship with Randvi before she and Sigurd separate.
- If Eivor loses their cool and punches Basim and Sigurd during their argument in Oxenfordscire.
- If Eivor denies Dag his axe in their final fight.
- If Eivor contradicts Sigurd in his judgement.
- Three or more strikes will lead to Sigurd returning to Norway as opposed to him returning to England with Eivor.
After this cutscene with Sigurd, Layla will be brought out of the Animus and you’ll be in the modern-day.
After Shaun, Rebecca, and Layla talk about what they need to do, go talk to Rebecca in the house. She’ll be by her computer. After that, go and talk to Shaun by the van.
He’ll be taking you to the Isu vault we just visited as Eivor with Sigurd earlier in this quest. When the elevator finishes taking you down, head forward.
When you reach a gap, jump onto the water slide in front of you and get ready to jump at the end. Down here, slide under the opening in the nearby wall and then dive into the water in this next room. Swim left through the opening and continue forward on the only path before you. You’ll eventually reach a large tower. You’ll need to parkour your way up it — follow the white-yellow lights up.
Run forward to the circle room with the mechanical arms from earlier when you were Eivor and a cutscene will begin. You’ll be brought to Eivor’s Valhalla simulation from earlier.
Walk forward as far as you can and when you see a bunch of tables and chairs floating, broken in the simulation, turn around. Now walk that way.
Another cutscene will begin when you’re close enough. When in control of Layla again, walk forward to the bright, shining tree and another cutscene will begin.
This is a long cutscene so strap in. Hardcore Assassin’s Creed fans…prepare because these scenes are for you.
Eventually, you’ll be in control of Basim.
Return to the Animus and a cutscene will begin. Eivor and Sigurd have returned to Ravensthorpe.
This concludes this quest and the In the Hall of the Slain quest line.
