Chapter 3 – Death Match in Asakusa
Death Match in Asakusa is the name of the third chapter of Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles. This chapter has battles, exploration, Memory Fragments, Kimetsu Points, and a Special Mission.
Use IGN’s guide to know where to find every collectible and the best tips for your journey.
First Steps in Asakusa
Chapter 3 starts with a scene showing an unknown man speaking with a crow about Tanjiro’s next assignment. The protagonist needs to go to Asakusa, for reasons that are about to be discovered.
Once in the new location, you’ll be in one of the main streets, crowded with people. The path you need to follow is pretty straightforward, but before going to your objective, check your secondary ones. First, check the car on the left (Reward Mission). A man will tell you about it.
Now go to the right and you will see a theater. Examine it for your Reward Mission. Then turn left and examine the phone cabin (Reward Mission). There will be a man complaining about someone spending too much time in it.
Finally, advance forward a few steps and go to the right side of the street one more time. There’ll be some posters that you need to examine for your Reward Mission. Then you are ready to go to the end of the road and continue with your main mission.
How to Find Kibutsuji
A new scene will take place. Tanjiro will feel overwhelmed and he’ll take a rest with her sister. However, he’ll catch the scent of a demon and run to its location, leaving Nezuko behind. Apparently, it’s the scent of Kibutsuji.
You’ll be back to exploration. Track the scent and go all the way forward until you can turn right. If you keep going forward, the path will be blocked by a crowd.
On this block, jump over the box on the right and you will be on the other side. Turn left, walk a few steps and turn left again. You’ll find 50 Kimetsu Points near some buildings’ entrances.
Turn around, follow the path and take the left. You’ll see a new box that you need to step over. Follow that path, descend to the alley, and turn left. You’ll see 150 Kimetsu Points near a blocked path.
Now it’s time to go right to the main objective. Track the scent and return to the main street, where the crowd was. From this alley, you’ll pass the blocked path. Keep going forward, following the scent, and you’ll watch a new cutscene.
An Unexpected Turn of Events
During this scene, Tanjiro will finally meet Kibutsuji. However, the demon will be with his human family and Tanjiro will hesitate to attack. Kibutsuji then will turn a nearby human into a demon to create a distraction and get away from Tanjiro.
Trying to reduce the new demon without killing it in plain sight, Tanjiro will be surrounded by police officers. However, two new characters, Tamayo and Yushiro, will interfere. Tamayo creates an illusion that lets them escape, with Tanjiro realizing that they are both demons.
After being rescued, Tanjiro and Yushiro will go to where Nezuko was. Here you’ll be back to exploration mode, following Yushiro while Nezuko goes with you.
How to Find Tamayo’s Residence
In this section, you’ll need to find where Tamayo and Yushiro are staying. Yushiro will tell you where to go, but he’ll disappear right after. First, turn right and go near a house. Climb some stairs and you’ll find 150 Kimetsu Points.
Now get back to where you started, go forward and turn left. You’ll see that’s the path is blocked. However, Yushiro will tell you that some walls have been created with a Concealment Spell, and they are not really there. You can go through them by pressing the examine button.
After the explanation, go through this first fake wall and keep going forward. Then turn right and turn right again, at the first block. At the end of it, there’ll be 50 Kimetsu Points.
Then return to where you were and follow the scent. You’ll need to turn right on the second block. Advance a few steps and a demon will appear. This is a kind of regular demon that uses poison.
Stay away from the purple cloud whenever you see it. Apart from the poison, this demon can attack using his claws. Some attacks will show a radius on the ground as the area hit, and others will need him to charge it, like his aerial attack.
After the fight, turn right when you can. Go through the fake wall in front of you and keep going in that direction. Near an old man and his dog, you will find a new Memory Fragment (“Unforgivable”).
Time to go back and follow the demon’s scent. You’ll have to go up some stairs and follow that scent. The trail will stop in a wall. You need to go through there. Then, keep going forward until the end of the path, avoid the first block. Turn right and you’ll see 150 Kimetsu Points near a person sitting on a bench.
Now, go to the block that you first ignored and keep going in that direction. Turn right when possible and 50 Kimetsu Points will be waiting for you. Then get back to the previous block. You’ll need to pass through a fake wall. Turn right, walk a few steps, and a new demon will emerge. It has the same moves as the one before.
Before going to the designated point (!!), turn right and keep going in that direction. There will be 50 Kimetsu Points at the end of the path. Next, turn around and go to your main objective. A cutscene will play.
Inside Tamayo’s and Yushiro’s House
Tanjiro and Nezuko will meet the two new demons at their residence. Tamayo, who is a doctor, will speak about the differences between treating humans and demons.
Believing that Tamayo could be of assistance, Tanjiro will explain to her what happened to Nezuko. However, Tamayo will tell him that she doesn’t know how to turn demons back to humans. She’ll make a request — gathering blood from special demons — to Tanjiro so she can try a solution.
After a moment, the group will receive an attack and one of the room’s walls will be destroyed. Two new demons will make their appearance — Yahaba and Susamaru. They are looking for Tanjiro.
How to Defeat Yahaba and Susamaru (Double Boss)
For this boss battle, you’ll face Susamaru playing as Tanjiro. She can do the following attacks:
- Charged ball throws, one at a time, two in a row.
- Throw six balls at once — their trajectory marked on the floor.
- Melee attacks when you get close to her.
When you have dealt some damage, Susamaru will get a buff and now she’ll attack using Yahaba’s skills, too. After the buff, she’ll be able of:
- Throwing charged balls, four times in a row.
- Throwing a series of balls into the sky, which will fall in circular marks on the floor.
- Jumping and staying in the air for a few seconds, before breaking the floor — also marked with a circle.
- Spawning a series of balls with arrows in them. Sometimes they will attack in multiple directions and others will follow you at once. You can check the trajectory by the marks on the floor.
The best moment to attack is as soon as she has finished a throwing animation. She’ll be exposed and open to combos. Try to maintain a medium distance against her, so you can use chase dash to reach Susamaru quickly after avoiding the projectiles.
After her health gauge comes to zero, the fight will stop and there will be a new cutscene.
Susamaru and Yahaba Boss Fight (2° Round)
For the second round, Nezuko will enter the battlefield and face Susamaru. On the other hand, Tanjiro will fight against Yahaba off-screen. So, you’ll face Susamaru a second time with another character.
This battle will be similar to the previous one, with some key changes. The demon will now throw more balls at once, including waves of them, and she has a special kick attack. Beware of this last move, because the ball goes quickly and it deals more damage than the others.
Again, she will gain a buff when receiving a certain amount of damage, but her attacks will be the ones you already know.
Use the same strategy as before and hit her right after she has thrown a ball.
Susamaru and Yahaba Boss Fight (3° Round)
Once Susamaru is defeated, you’ll face Yahaba playing as Tanjiro.
Yahaba attacks using red arrows. He can do the following attacks:
- Throw rocks.
- Throw waves of arrows, five projectiles at once. (Their trajectory will be marked on the floor).
Apart from the rock, every attack of Yahaba can be avoided, even when hit. Use this to your advantage and try to attack him as soon as the arrows disappear.
When buffed and after it wears off, Yahaba will have some extra attacks:
- A series of arrows in the air. They will follow you.
- Three fast arrows that don’t have a trajectory mark.
- Ten arrows that go in a straight line, at the same time.
- Multiple arrows, which go in different directions.
Continue with the same strategy as before and have your blue bar charged whenever you can.
When the boss’s health bar reaches the red mark, the interactive sequence with QTEs will start. Correctly press the buttons on-screen and Yahaba will be defeated.
The Aftermath
Before disappearing entirely, Tanjiro will be hit with Yahaba’s arrows for quite some time. However, he will manage to exit from the attacks, exhausted. Nezuko, on her side, will be victorious and Susamaru will vanish.
The other demons will speak about demon eyes, how they indicate their power when they have a number. Neither Susamaru nor Yahaba had numbers on them.
On the next day, the group will talk for the last time. Tamayo will offer Nezuko to stay with her and Yushiro, so she will be safe while Tanjiro tries to collect the blood of unique demons. However, Nezuko decides to stay with her brother.
How to Complete Chapter 3 – Death Match in Asakusa 100%
After the last scene, you’ll be back to the Main Story menu. Here you can view the Memory Fragments that you obtained and replay the scenes or battles that you want. To get 100%, you need to complete all the Reward Missions and get an S rank in the battles.
If you have followed this guide, your Reward Missions will be completed. However, you can check the icons and see if the blue exclamation mark has a red tick. That’s how you know if they are complete. If not, you can repeat the exploration segments and find what you need.
The last thing you will need to do is the chapter’s Special Mission (“The Temple Haunter”). It’s a battle against a demon class you have already fought, first in normal difficulty and then in hard. You need to get an S rank in both of them to get the S rank in the chapter.
