AZ Coronavirus: IKEA, Gap Among Growing Store Closures

More than 50 retail chains have temporarily shuttered in response to the ongoing new coronavirus outbreak.

IKEA on Wednesday became one of the latest retail giants to announce it will temporarily close all U.S. stores as a precautionary measure against the new coronavirus outbreak. IKEA has 50 U.S. locations, including one in Arizona, and the IKEA Planning Studio in Manhattan. IKEA joins a growing list of temporary retail closures prompted by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic affecting the United States. Earlier this week, Macy’s said it was closing all stores until March 31 in response to the growing coronavirus crisis.

Javier Quiñones, IKEA retail U.S. president, said in a statement that unprecedented times call for unprecedented measures.

“This is the most responsible way IKEA can continue to care for our co-workers and our customers in a manner that is healthy and safe,” Quiñones said. “We are taking our role in containing this epidemic seriously, and we recognize the positive impact our actions could have on making life better for the millions of people who have been impacted by this crisis.”

In Arizona, IKEA has one location at2110 West IKEA Way, Tempe, 85284 . Online shopping will still be available during the closure.

As of Wednesday, these retail chains have announced temporary closures of locations in our state. This information is subject to change as new closures are announced.

Abercrombie & Fitch: Abercrombie & Fitch has temporarily closed all of its stores outside of the Asia-Pacific region, effective March 15 until at least March 28. The company is still accepting online orders. The closure also affects company brands Hollister and Gilly Hicks.

Adidas: Adidas has closed all store locations in the US, Canada and Europe through March 29. Reebok, a subsidiary of Adidas, will also close all stores.

American Eagle: Beginning March 17, American Eagle will close all of its physical stores in the U.S. until at least March 27. Customers are encouraged to continue shopping for the brand online.

Ann Taylor/LOFT: The Ascena Retail Group announced March 17 that it would close all Ann Taylor, LOFT, and Lou & Grey stores through March 28.

Anthropologie: Anthropologie has closed all of its stores worldwide, including its partner brands Terrain and BHLDN, until at least March 28.

Apple: Apple has closed all of its stores outside Greater China until at least March 27. The company’s online stores will remain open.

Allbirds: On March 15, Allbirds said it would close its store through March 27. Its online store will continue to take orders.

Aritzia: Beginning on March 16, Artizia is closing all of its retail locations in the US and Canada “until further notice.” During this period, the company said it would donate all of its profits to the Aritzia Community Relief Fund, which supports its employees and their families.

Away: The luggage company announced March 15 on Instagram that it would close all of its stores for two weeks and delay the opening of its forthcoming store in Dallas, Texas.

Bath & Body Works: Bath & Body Works will temporarily close all stores in the U.S. and Canada. The retailer will still conduct online sales.

Calvin Klein: Calvin Klein’s parent company, PVH Corp., announced that it will close all of its stores in North America and Europe through March 29. This also includes Tommy Hilfiger, Van Heusen, Izod and Speedo. Customers can continue to shop online.

Chico’s: Chico’s will temporarily close all of its physical stores until March 31. This includes all of the company’s brands — Chico’s, White House Black Market, Soma and TellTale.

Columbia Sportswear: On March 16, the company announced it would close all of its North American physical retail stores through March 27.

Disney Store: Disney has temporarily closed all of its Disney Store locations beginning March 17. The company has not stated when it plans to reopen. Customers can continue to make purchases online.

DSW: The shoe retailer temporarily closed all of its stores in the U.S. and Canada beginning March 17. It has not announced a prospective reopening date. In the meantime, it is offering all online shoppers free shipping and 20 percent off an online purchase with code SHOPONLINE.

Everlane: On March 14, Everlane announced it would close its retail locations until March 28 and compensate its retail team during this period. Its online store remains open.

Foot Locker: Foot locker is temporarily ceasing operations of all its retail locations in North America through March 31.

Fossil: Fossil announced it would close all of its stores, including Fossil Outlet locations, in North America through March 28.

Gap: Gap Inc. announced March 18 it would close all stores in North America for two weeks beginning March 19. The temporary Gap Inc. closures additionally apply to its Banana Republic, Athleta, Intermix, and Janie and Jack brands.

Glossier: Glossier was the first of the U.S. retailers to close up shop, announcing March 13 that it would halt business at its New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta stores for two weeks,

H&M: H&M became the first fast-fashion retailer to shutter stores in North America when it announced March 18 that it would temporarily close all 590 of its stores in the US through April 2.

Hollister: Hollister, owned by the Abercrombie & Fitch Corporation, will also temporarily shutter all stores outside of the Asia-Pacific region as part of companywide store closures.

J.C. Penney: The company announced March 18 it is temporarily closing its stores and business offices, starting at 7 p.m. local time. The stores and business offices are scheduled to reopen April 2.

J. Crew: The company has closed all J.Crew and J.Crew Factory retail stores for the next two weeks until March 28, effective immediately. Customers can continue to shop online.

Kiehl’s: On March 17, Kiehl’s announced on Instagram it would close its stores effective immediately “until further notice.”

Kohl’s: The company adjusted hours to 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. beginning March 17 until further notice to ensure that all stores are well-staffed and cleaned during peak times. Beginning Tuesday, March 17, all Kohl’s stores will be open for customers from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time until further notice.

Lands’ End: Lands’ End has temporarily shuttered all retail locations through March 29. The company’s website remains open.

Lane Bryant: The Ascena Retail Group closures also extend to its brands Lane Bryant, Cacique, Catherines, and Justice. Stores will be closed March 18-28.

Levi Strauss: Effective immediately, all the Levi’s and Levi’s Outlet stores in the U.S. will be closed through March 27. The company’s online shopping platforms will remain open.

L.L. Bean: L.L. Bean has closed all stores from March 17 through March 29. Customers can still make purchases online and via phone.

Lululemon: Lululemon has closed all its retail locations in Europe and North America until March 27. Customers can continue to shop online and use the Lululemon app.

Lush Cosmetics: Lush Cosmetics is temporarily closing all 258 stores in the U.S. and Canada through March 29. Customers can continue to shop online.

Madewell: In an email sent to shoppers March 16, Madewell announced it would close all stores and cancel all in-store community events in the US through March 28.

New Balance: New Balance has closed all of its temporary offices, factories and owned retailers in the United States, Canada and Western Europe until at least March 27. At this point, New Balance’s website will remain operational.

Neiman Marcus: On March 17, Neiman Marcus Group CEO Geoffroy van Raemdonck called for the closure of all Neiman Marcus and Last Call stores in North America through March 31. The company will continue to serve shoppers online. Bergdorf Goodman, a subsidiary of Neiman Marcus Group, will also temporarily close its doors through March 31.

Nike: Nike has closed all stores in the U.S., Canada, Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand through at least March 27.

Nordstrom: Nordstorm has temporarily ceased operations in its North American stores until at least March 31. This includes Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack. The company will continue to serve customers through its apps and online platforms. They will still offer digital styling, online order pickup and curbside services at their full-line stores, where permitted by local regulations.

Old Navy: Old Navy, a subsidiary of Gap Inc., will also close its doors for two weeks beginning on March 19, and all employees will receive pay and benefits.

Outdoor Voices: In an email sent to shoppers on March 15, Outdoor Voices announced it is closing stores beginning March 16 through March 27, as well as canceling in-store community events until further notice.

Patagonia: Patagonia has temporarily shut down all operations in North America, including orders on its website. They will update the public again on or before March 23.

Perry Ellis: In a message posted on Instagram on March 17, Perry Ellis announced it would close its US stores through March 31.

Pottery Barn: Pottery Barn’s parent company, Williams-Sonoma, has closed all of its retail locations in the U.S. and Canada through April 2. This includes Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, and Pottery Barn Teen. The company is allowing curbside pickup “as local regulations allow.”

Ralph Lauren: Ralph Lauren is temporarily closing all of its North American stores effective March 18. The closure is expected to last until at least April 1. The closures will not impact mobile or online shopping.

Reformation: On March 14, Reformation announced it would temporarily close stores and pay retail employees during this period.

REI: On March 15, the company said it would close all 162 of its retail stores in the United States from March 16 through March 27. REI’s e-commerce site remains open for purchases.

Rothy’s: The shoe company officially closed up shop March 14, announcing in a statement that its four stores would remain temporarily shuttered through March 31.

Sephora: Sephora has closed all of its U.S. stores, including those located inside JCPenney retailers, until April 3, the company announced in an email. They are offering customers free standard shipping on merchandise purchases made online through 11:59 p.m. PT on March 31.

Target: Target Chairman and CEO Brian Cornell announced plans to close all stores by 9 p.m. daily, and reserve the first hour of each shopping day for seniors.

The Body Shop: In a statement shared via Instagram Stories on March 17, The Body Shop announced it would temporarily shutter all stores in North America and Portugal “until further notice.”

Ulta: On March 17, CEO Mary Dillon called for the temporary closure of all Ulta locations in the US through March 31. The company’s online store remains open.

Under Armour: Under Armour confirmed in a statement sent to Business Insider that it would suspend its physical retail operations in North America through March 28.

Uniqlo: In a note to customers sent on March 16, Uniqlo wrote that it would close all 50 of its stores in the United States beginning March 17 until further notice.

Urban Outfitters: Urban Outfitters has temporarily closed all of its stores in the U.S., Canada and Europe until further notice. Customers can continue to shop online. The company is offering free shipping on orders over $50 and free returns on orders placed in the U.S.

Vans: Vans has temporarily closed all stores in the U.S. and Canada. It has not announced an expected date for reopening.

Victoria’s Secret: Victoria’s Secret on March 17 announced the company would shutter physical retail locations in the United States and Canada through March 29. The online store remains open.

Vineyard Vines: Vineyard Vines has closed all of its stores through March 27. Their website will remain open.

Yankee Candle: Yankee Candle has temporarily closed all of its retail and outlet sto
res until March 31. It hopes to reopen April 1. Customers can still purchase Yankee Candle products at Walmart, Amazon.com, Kohl’s, Meijer, Kroger, Fred Meyer and Bed Bath & Beyond.

Warby Parker: Warby Parker is closing stores through March 27. The company will continue to take online orders and assist with customer service questions and inquiries about prescriptions on its website.

Zara: Parent company Inditex announced March 18 that it would temporarily close nearly 4,000 of its stores in 39 markets.
