Placing Your Rug Underneath the Bed

Now that you have a better idea of what will work for your exact bed size, you want to have a finalized idea of what you want the room to look like. Knowing exactly where the rug will be and where you want the bed to sit on top of the rug is important. Most want to center the bed on top of the rug in some way, but this will depend on your final bed placement.

If your bed is against the wall, you will only need enough of the rug under the edge against the wall to keep it in place. You can then center the three other sides of the rug around the bottom and outer sides of the bed. However, if your rug is in the center of the room, you will want to make sure that the bed is in line with the rug.

Once you have your room outlook in mind, you can jump into the steps it takes to ensure your bed is easily placed on the rug. We will break this down into two sets of steps, beds that can be lifted and off the ground and those that are far too heavy and on the ground. We will start with those lighter beds.

How to Roll Out a Rug Under an Off-Ground Bed

If your bed has plenty of room underneath it, you are already at an advantage when it comes to adding a rug. You will want to start with your rug rolled up; if you have recently purchased the piece, it should already be adequately rolled; this will make unrolling it and placing it simpler.

To make these steps easier, we will assume that your bed is against the wall, and you are running the rug underneath the bed. This would make your bed centered on the rug on both sides and the end, with the headboard against the walls. If you are hoping for a different final look, you can use these same steps and just alter the placement slightly. The steps you will want to follow are:

1. Make sure the underneath area of your bed is cleaned out so that you can easily roll the rug into place. There should be nothing stopping you from efficiently placing the rug.
2. Slide your rolled rug underneath your bed and make sure that it is against the headboard end. Make sure that the bed is centered over the rug, as you will want it to look at the end. Starting with your rug as centered as possible will make the process much easier.
3. Lift the headboard side slightly and slide the open end of the rolled rug underneath the legs of the bed. This will help hold the rug in place; you simply need to lift the legs slightly to place it. If you have a partner helping you, they can lift the bed while you slide the rug underneath it.
4. Once the rug is in place and held down with the headboard end of the bed, you can easily roll it underneath the bed until it hits the bottom end legs.
5. Upon reaching the bottom legs of the bed, your rug should be fairly rolled out, and you will simply need to lift the legs and roll out the remainder of the rug. You will want to place the legs securely on top of the rug and finalize it into place.

Your rug should now be easily placed underneath the bed. If you achieved proper placement in the beginning, the bed should be centered on the rug. This process should be simple, and with a partner, little lifting is needed.

How to Place a Rug Under an On-Ground Bed

If your bed is on the ground, the process of placing your rug is not much more difficult but will require some heavier lifting. If you can enlist a partner, your steps will be lowered drastically. If you do not have a partner in place, you will want to take additional steps to ensure you are not over lifting and causing any bodily harm.

The easy steps you need to take to place your rug underneath your bed are:

1. If you have a partner in place and your bed can be lifted, you can easily move it to a new area. This can be done in one of two ways, either in its entirety or broken down slightly. Those who are able to can move the entire bed to a new location in the room and skip to step 3.
2. If your bed is too heavy to be lifted easily, you can break it down slightly to make lifting easier. This can vary depending on how much help you have and the overall weight of the bed. You may want to remove the mattress, break down the frame slightly, and then move the pieces while laying down the rug. Simply ensure you remember how to rebuild the bed properly.
3. Once the bed area is cleared, you will simply roll out the rug where you want it. You should start against the wall and roll downward. This should be a straightforward process; it is essential to remember where you want the bed placed so that you can center up the rug.
4. You will then want to enlist help again, moving the pieces of the bed back onto the top of the rug. If you did not break down your bed, you can easily move it back with your partner(s) and place it on the center of the rug.
5. If you did break down your bed, line up your headboard with the back center of the rug against the wall. This will guarantee the bed is built back in place and aligned with the rug. Ensure you build the bed back up correctly, and your rug should be nicely underneath the bed.
