Should I Pay The Collection Agency Or Original Creditor?

I don’t know what happened but I got an alert this morning that a collection has been added to my account. I checked and it’s already an existing collection with the same CA and amount. Is this possible?

I have a few of these. To keep your scores as supressed as possible, some CAs periodically remove and then replace themselves on your CRs (same day or several days apart). They can do this once in a while or as frequently as they like. Mine do it monthly around the end of the month to remove and the first of the month to replace themselves.

They just also may be updating to keep your scores supressed and sometimes it will trigger CA activity alerts. They can update as frequently (which keeps your scores down) as they want as long as it is not inaccurate reporting. It is a tactic to get your attention.

Sounds like several violations of the FDCPA:

same thing happened to me. I sent a PFD letter last month and recieved no response but since I understand AMERASSIST will PFD, and I am an inpatient person, I sent an email on 08/30/2020. The very next morning I recieved a call from an AMERASSIST representative stating they recieved my email and what exactly would I like to do. I stated I wanted this account removed from my cbr and what would I need to do to do that. She asked if I can pay in full the same day and they will delete the account after payment confirmation. I post dated a payment for the next day 09/01/2020 and then today I recieved an alert a new account was added to my cbr but I noticed it was dated 08/31/2020, before my email. So I called AMERASSIST anyway and they confirmed they sent for deletion yesterday 09/02/2020. So you may just need to pay them. I believe they may have added the alert to get me to contact them to pay instead of them sending a letter to me saying they will delete if I pay them.

“Has flagged yur account” is unclear.

Do they mean that they have updated reporting of an existing collection, or they have reported an entirely new collection on the same debt?

A careful review of your actual credit reporting from annualcredit report.com should be done before jumping to a conclusion that a statement made by the vendor who created your credit report comprises knowingly inaccurate reporting by the debt collector or may be an unfair debt collection practice under the FDCPA.

Ok. I guess they’ve been making updates on 8/31. Thank you. I’ll wait for my report next week to see what’s going on.
