How long to beat Horizon Forbidden West according to reviews

Horizon Forbidden West comes out in just a couple of days and its game director has shared how long it will take to beat while reviewers have also revealed how many hours you can spend completing all activities in the game.

Reviews for Aloy’s sequel are mostly positive. Although few are jaded by the mechanics and features that come with the open-world genre, almost everyone seems to agree that the story is compelling and that the combat is thrilling.

The open-world is also said to be gorgeous, and exploring all of its nooks and crannies could keep you exploring endlessly.

How long to beat Horizon Forbidden West

The Horizon Forbidden West game director, Mathijs de Jonge, has said the sequel takes as long to beat as the first game.

This was revealed in an interview with German outlet GamePro. While the main campaign of Zero Dawn was 23 hours long to for most players, it took completionists an average of 60 hours.

Mathijs de Jonge also revealed to IGN that the open-world map is slightly bigger than Zero Dawn‘s. This is one of many reasons the playtime for Sony users will fluctuate as some will want to complete side quests and activities while others may wish to just experience the narrative unfold.

How many hours to complete the story?

German outlet GamePro says that a realistic time to beat the Horizon Forbidden West story and campaign is 33 hours.

This is how long it took them to complete the narrative for their review. An important note is that they participated in several side quests and open-world activities.

It’s also noted that you can’t completely avoid side quests on normal difficulty otherwise you won’t reach the level recommendations for story missions.

In addition to GamePro, YouTube reviewer JorRaptor also beat the game in fewer than 50 hours. They say this playtime allowed them to finish the narrative as well as witness most of the side content.

There are lots of side quests and activities in the game with Techcrunch reporting that there are 17 different categories.

Their review says that these include the normal main and side objectives, but also errands, contracts, jobs, rebel hideouts, camps, combat challenges, hunting sites, and more.

Players will also encounter numerous mechanical beasts to kill for crafting elements, and you will come across ancient ruins to explore, too. These are described as block-pushing and platforming puzzles that Tomb Raider would feel at home in.

Regardless of how much you want to finish and complete, landmarks and activities will almost always appear on your map. Completing the campaign is estimated at 33 hours while completing most side quests is about 50 hours, but fully completing everything could take as long as 100 hours according to reviewer Fextralife.
