Every Alternate Evolution in Pokemon Sword and Shield

This slideshow will show you every other method of evolution within Pokemon Sword and Shield outside of standard leveling. It includes the following sections: Pokemon that Evolve by Trade, Pokemon that Evolve with Stones, Pokemon, Pokemon that Evolve with Friendship, Pokemon that Evolve with Specific Items, and Pokemon that Evolve in Strange Ways.
First up is Pokemon that evolve when traded. Some will also have to hold an item while being traded or traded for specific other Pokemon to evolve, so bear this in mind.
To evolve Swirlix into Slurpuff: Swirlix needs to be traded while holding a Whipped Dream to be evolved into Slurpuff. This item can be found in Hammerlocke or Motosoke.
To evolve Spritzee into Aromatisse: Spritzee needs to be holding a Sachet when traded to evolve into Aromatisse. This item can be found in Motosoke and Wyndon.
To evolve Rhydon into Rhyperior: Rhydon will need to be traded holding the Protector item to evolve it into Rhyperior. This item can be found on Route 9.
To evolve Pumpkaboo into Gourgeist: No item needed here. Simply trade Pumpkaboo and it will evolve into Gourgeist.
To evolve Phantump into Trevenant: No item needed here. Simply trade Phantump and it will evolve into Trevenant.
To evolve Onyx into Steelix: Onyx will need to be traded holding the Metal Coat item to evolve it into Steelix. This item can be found in Stow-on-Side, or from the Digging Duo.
To evolve Machoke into Machamp: No item needed here. Simply trade Machoke and it will evolve into Machamp.
To evolve Shelmet into Accelgor and Karrablast into Escavalier: This is a bit of an odd evolution, as you will need to trade one Pokemon for the other. Only then will they both evolve into their final forms.
To evolve Haunter into Gengar: No item needed here. Simply trade Haunter and it will evolve into Gengar.
To evolve Gurdurr into Conkeldurr: No item needed here. Simply trade Gurdurr and it will evolve into Conkeldurr.
To evolve Feebas into Milotic: Feebas will need to be traded holding the Prism Scale item to evolve it into Milotic. This item can be found in Route 2 or South Lake Miloch.
To evolve Dusclops into Dusknoir: Dusclops will need to be traded holding the Reaper Cloth item to evolve it into Dusknoir. This item can be found in Hammerlocke or Stow-on-Side.
To evolve Boldore into Gigalith: No item needed here. Simply trade Boldore and it will evolve into Gigalith.
This next group of Pokemon evolves by using a specific evolution stone on them. While the image of each stone can be seen, check the caption for what the stone is and where to find it.
To evolve Vulpix into Ninetales: Use a Fire Stone on the standard version of Vulpix to evolve it into Ninetales. This item can be found in the Lake of Outrage, Motostoke Riverbank, or from the Digging Duo. It can also return with a Pokemon from a PokeJob.
To evolve Togetic into Togekiss: Use a Shiny Stone on Togetic to evolve it into Togekiss. This item can be found in Route 8, the Lake of Outrage, or from the Digging Duo. It can also return with a Pokemon from a PokeJob.
To evolve Snowrunt into Froslass: Use a Dawn Stone on a female Snowrunt to evolve it into Frosslass. This item can be found in Giant’s Cap, the Lake of Outrage, or from the Digging Duo.
To evolve Roselia into Roserade: Use a Shiny Stone on Roselia to evolve it into Roserade. This item can be found in Route 8, the Lake of Outrage, or from the Digging Duo. It can also return with a Pokemon from a PokeJob.
To evolve Pikachu into Raichu: Use a Thunder Stone on Pikachu to evolve it into Raichu. This item can be found in the Lake of Outrage, North Lake Miloch or from the Digging Duo. It can also return with a Pokemon from a PokeJob.
To evolve Nuzleaf into Shiftry: Use a Leaf Stone on Nuzleaf to evolve it into Shiftry. This item can be found in the Lake of Outrage, Turffield, or from the Digging Duo. It can also return with a Pokemon from a PokeJob.
To evolve Minccino into Cinccino: Use a Shiny Stone on Minccino to evolve it into Cinccino. This item can be found in Route 8, the Lake of Outrage, or from the Digging Duo. It can also return with a Pokemon from a PokeJob.
To evolve Lombre into Ludicolo: Use a Water Stone on Lombre to evolve it into Ludicolo. This item can be found in Route 2, Bridge Field, the Lake of Outrage, or from the Digging Duo. It can also return with a Pokemon from a PokeJob.
To evolve Lampent into Chandelure: Use a Dusk Stone on Lampent to evolve it into Chandelure. This item can be found in the Lake of Outrage, Stow-on-Side or from the Digging Duo. It can also return with a Pokemon from a PokeJob.
To evolve Helioptile into Heliolisk: Use a Sun Stone on Helioptile to evolve it into Heliolisk. This item can be found in the Dusty Bowl or from the Digging Duo. It can also return with a Pokemon from a PokeJob.
To evolve Growlithe into Arcanine: Use a Fire Stone on Growlithe to evolve it into Arcanine. This item can be found in the Lake of Outrage, Motostoke Riverbank, or from the Digging Duo. It can also return with a Pokemon from a PokeJob.
To evolve Gloom into Vileplume: Use a Leaf Stone on Gloom to evolve it into Vileplume. This item can be found in the Lake of Outrage, Turffield, or from the Digging Duo. It can also return with a Pokemon from a PokeJob. To evolve Gloom into Bellosom: Use a Sun Stone on Gloom to evolve it into Bellosom. This item can be found in the Dusty Bowl or from the Digging Duo. It can also return with a Pokemon from a PokeJob.
To evolve Galarian Darumaka into Galarian Darmanitan: Use an Ice Stone on Galarian Darumaka to evolve it into Galarian Darmanitan. This item can be found in the Lake of Outrage, or from the Digging Duo.
To evolve Eevee into Glaceon: Use an Ice Stone on Eevee to evolve it into Glaceon. This item can be found in the Lake of Outrage, or from the Digging Duo. To evolve Eevee into Flareon: Use a Fire Stone on Eevee to evolve it into Flareon. This item can be found in the Lake of Outrage, Motostoke Riverbank, or from the Digging Duo. It can also return with a Pokemon from a PokeJob. To evolve Eevee into Leafeon: Use a Leaf Stone on Eevee to evolve it into Leafeon. To evolve Clefairy into Clefable: Use a Moon Stone on Clefairy to evolve it into Clefable. This item can be found in the Dusty Bowl or from the Digging Duo. It can also return with a Pokemon from a PokeJob.
To evolve Charjabug into Vikavolt: Use a Thunder Stone on Charjabug to evolve it into Vikavolt. This item can be found in the Lake of Outrage, North Lake Miloch or from the Digging Duo. It can also return with a Pokemon from a PokeJob.
To evolve Munna into Musharna: Use a Moon Stone on Munna to evolve it into Musharna. This item can be found in the Dusty Bowl or from the Digging Duo. It can also return with a Pokemon from a PokeJob.
To evolve Shellder into Cloyster: Use a Water Stone on Shellder to evolve it into Cloyster. This item can be found in Route 2, Bridge Field, the Lake of Outrage, or from the Digging Duo. It can also return with a Pokemon from a PokeJob.
To evolve Kirlia into Gallade: Use a Dawn Stone on a male Kirlia to evolve it into Gallade. This item can be found in Giant’s Cap, the Lake of Outrage, or from the Digging Duo.
The next set of Pokemon all involve the use of friendship in their evolution process.
To evolve Woobat into Swoobat: No special circumstances needed here. Simply get your Woobat to love you and eventually it will evolve.
To evolve Togepi into Togetic: No special circumstances needed here. Simply get your Togepi to love you and eventually it will evolve.
To evolve Snom into Frosmoth: You’ll need to get your Snom to love you but you’ll also need for it to level up at night once your friendship is maxed out for it to evolve into Frosmoth.
To evolve Riolu into Lucario: You’ll need to get your Riolu to love you but you’ll also need for it to level up during the day once your friendship is maxed out for it to evolve into Lucario.
To evolve Pichu into Pikachu: No special circumstances needed here. Simply get your Pichu to love you and eventually it will evolve.
To evolve Type:Null into Silvally: No special circumstances needed here. Simply get your Type:Null to love you and eventually it will evolve. Note that the Type of the Silvally will change based on what Memory your Type:Null is holding when it evolves.
To evolve Munchlax into Snorlax: No special circumstances needed here. Simply get your Munchlax to love you and eventually it will evolve.
To evolve Eevee into Espeon: You’ll need to get your Eevee to love you but you’ll also need for it to level up during the day once your friendship is maxed out for it to evolve into Espeon. To evolve Eevee into Umbreon: You’ll need to get your Eevee to love you but you’ll also need for it to level up at night once your friendship is maxed out for it to evolve into Umbreon.
To evolve Cleffa into Clefairy: No special circumstances needed here. Simply get your Cleffa to love you and eventually it will evolve.
To evolve Budew into Roselia: You’ll need to get your Budew to love you but you’ll also need for it to level up during the day once your friendship is maxed out for it to evolve into Roselia.
These next few Pokemon evolve when you use a specific item on them or let them hold the item and perform a weird action.
To evolve Sinistea into Polteageist: You’ll need to use an item on your Sinistea and it will evolve into a Polteageist. Though, what item you’ll use will depend on what type of Sinistea you have. Sinistea has an antique form and a phony form. You can tell which you have by if you have a small sticker on the base of your Sinistea. The antique form (with sticker) will need the Chipped Pot item to evolve, while the phony form will need the Cracked Pot item to evolve the phony form. Both items can be found in Stow-on-Side.
To evolve Milcery into Alcremie: You’ll need to have your Milcery hold a specific item, and then spin your character in a specific way. What item you have it hold and how and when you spin will dictate what color of Alcremie you’ll get. There’s many many combinations.
To evolve Applin into Flapple: You’ll need to use a Tart Apple on your Applin. After the use of the item, Applin will immediately evolve, though the Tart Apple item is more easily obtainable in Pokemon Sword. You can find the item in Axew’s Eye, or from the sidequest in Hammerlocke. To evolve Applin into Appletun: You’ll need to use a Sweet Apple on your Applin. After the use of the item, Applin will immediately evolve, though the Sweet Apple item is more easily obtainable in Pokemon Shield. You can find the item in Axew’s Eye, or from the sidequest in Hammerlocke.
This last set of Pokemon are especially strange in the way they evolve, requiring specific methods for each.
To evolve Clobbopus into Grapploct: You’ll need to either teach your Clobbopus TR37 Taunt early or wait for it to learn it at Level 35. Once it knows it, the subsequent level up will result in its evolution into Grapploct.
To evolve Galarian Yamask into Galarian Runerigus: Your Yamask will need to take 49 or more damage, yet still survive. Once it meets these conditions, take it to the stone arch in the Dusty Bowl. As you run under it, the Galarian Yamask will start to evolve.
To evolve Toxel into Toxtricity: You’ll need to level your Toxel to level 30. However, which version of Toxtricity you get will depend on your Toxel’s nature. You’ll get the Amped Up Version if your Toxel’s nature is: Adamant, Brave, Docile, Hardy, Hasty, Impish, Jolly, Lax, Naive, Naughty, Rash, Quirky, Sassy You’ll get the Low Key Version if your Toxel’s nature is: Bashful, Bold, Calm, Careful, Gentle, Lonely, Mild, Modest, Quiet, Relaxed, Serious, Timid
To evolve Sliggoo into Goodra: Your Sliggoo will need to be level 50 or greater. After this head to a rainy or foggy area and it’s next level up will result in evolution into Goodra.
To evolve Linoone into Obstagoon: Your Linoone will need to be level 30 or greater. After this head to an area where it’s nighttime and it’s next level up will result in evolution into Obstagoon.
To evolve Galarian Farfetch’d into Sirfetch’d: You’ll need to catch a Farfetch’d holding a Leek item. After you’ve done this, head into battle with it. It will need to get three critical hits in a battle while holding the Leek item and after the battle it will evolve.
To evolve Bonsly into Sudowoodo: Your Bonsly will need to know the move Mimic, then once it levels up it will evolve into Sudowoodo.
To evolve Inkay into Malamar: Your Inkay will need to be at least level 29, then upon the next level up, turn and hold your Switch upside down and your Inkay will evolve into Malamar.
To evolve Mantyke into Mantine: Have a Remoraid in your party when your Mantyke levels up and it will evolve into Mantine.
To evolve Mime Jr. into Galarian Mr. Mime: Have your Mime Jr. know the move Mimic, and upon its next level up it will evolve into Galarian Mr. Mime.
To get a Shedninja: At level 20 your Nincada will evolve into Ninjask. To get a Shedninja, have an empty slot in your part and a Pokeball available and after Nincada evolves into Ninjask, there will be a Shedninja in the empty slot.
To evolve Pancham into Pangoro: Have a Dark type pokemon in your party, and after reaching level 32 or higher, Pancham will evolve into Pangoro.
To evolve Piloswine into Mamoswine: Have a Piloswine know the move Ancient Power when leveling up and it will evolve into Mamoswine.
To evolve Steenee into Tsareena: Have a Steenee level up while knowing the move Stomp and it will evolve int in your party when your Mantyke levels up and it will evolve into Tsareena.
